Default Considering Buying a Hi-Def player

I already own a Bdp300 sony blu-ray player and LOVE the blu format. However I am a huge movie buff and with some titles not available on blu I am thinking about buying a hd player(with christmas Specials) and hooking it up along side my blu-ray. I am wanting to get members opinons on If and when the format war will ever end. Would I be wasting money on buying a player and films in hi-def? I really want the best of both worlds but should I just wait the war out(it seems to me that Blu ray is all but ready to lock things up. But with paramounts defection and the other studio(?) I just really want some of these films, Like The Big Lebowski. I am all for blu to rule but I have some estra $, shoudl I use it to buy blu discs, or get a high def player and just collect both? Like I said im only considering it because of my love of movies.
