The thing that can get costly tho is that; I live in Canada, so shipping anywhere here is pretty cheap, especially small envelopes. And shipping to the US isn't to pricy. But if it startes to get to overseas and Australia, it might get pricy.

I wouldn't want to be paid more than the cost of shipping, as I don't want to make a profit off of it.

I guess I would have to go to my shipping companies and see what sort of costs are involved.

Plus, I wouldn't want to have to go to the printer every couple of days, so I would have to kind of make a list and go every week or even better every two weeks.

Thoughts?

Another huge problem is that if the studios found out about the printing, then things can get shut down pretty quick. It's still illegal no matter which way you look at it.

BTW, good to see you bpm!

I never thought of it that way, thats good reasoning there, but what about all those custom art websites. Theyve never been shut down?

Hey ag! Good to hear from you!

That was my very same concern. Which is why I didn't want to make ANY profit off of it, that way it doesn't look like I am a distribution center, and that I am just doing it on occasion as a favor!

People,

Let's not get too ahead of ourselves here. I'm not a moderator, however I know what the MODs and Admin would say about this. In the interests of this thread, to keep it going (which we have done for a long time, mind you) you need to have good judgment on things like this. It would be unwise to start a printing and shipping service, or business, or whatever you may call it over communication in this thread. Please pm details to one another or e-mail rather than posting it here.

I am strictly thinking in the best interests for this thread. This is not your playground to try new types of business. If studios found out, which trust me, they keep their eyes open at all times, it could have sever repercussions on not only this thread, but blu-ray.com as a whole.

I cannot stress this enough. Starting a printing and physical distributing business using studio logos, and other studio material such as stock images, or any other images associated with a studio's film, is STRICTLY ILLEGAL.

My advice would be to stop communicating these ideas in this thread, delete your posts with this information, and to start thinking of alternate means of printing your covers pay for them yourself. I would also be damned to see anyone make a profit off of someone else's work.

The only reason they are allowed to stay up is because the owners aren't making money off of it. They are always putting it back into site maintenance or competition prizes.

There were a few that got shut down for that reason.

Well put ag!

This is very important to this site that we don't do this, as we all know we don't want to be the reason something happens.

I believe the slipcover guys are trading their slipcovers, but I think if they keep it as a trade there are no issues for them. But the thing we can see with them, is that, like any normal trade or sale, they are not producing it and selling it.

That's where the big issue comes in.

That is why no cover sites provide printing services.

Hope everyone can understand.

Most of the cover sites that you visit were shut down at one point a few years back because the studios found out about the custom cover scene. A lot of them reopened and had to agree to use paid memberships because most of the images being used are under copyright protection. The sites that do things the right way (and stay open) are the sites that pay a copyright approval fee for the resources such as logos, hi res images, and the like. We, as artists who love our hobby, pay for/earn memberships for our contributions to these sites so that we may download these resources and use them in our covers. Everything has a cost. I am afraid I have to be blunt, but we do you a favor by posting these covers in this thread. We're technically not supposed to.

Copyright approval is a big deal, can be expensive, and not to be taken lightly. It can also take a very long time to get copy right approval from studios. I submitted a Copyright Approval Form to Warner Bros. Home Video 6 months ago, and it still has yet to be approved. Then I would have to pay fees. I'm trying to get something published.

Please don't blow this for anyone. A lot of hard work goes into maintaining the legitimacy and integrity of our hobby here. We've dealt with a lot: cover theft, mods taking our privileges away, criticism, and now someone who wants to profit off of and distribute our covers. The issue is bigger than you. I just ask that you take a step back and just enjoy having the privilege of downloading our covers and printing them yourselves.

Hey HDGoofnut:

I like the idea for your War Collection covers.

I do have some thoughts to throw your way;

Perhaps you could create some war-type themed template for all your war covers. I can give you an example in a PM if you wish.

Also, when it comes to making a cover, the front and back are the most detailed parts of the cover, but the SPINE is the most important IMO. The spine is what you see more often than any other part of your cover (unless you display your movies like a video store, lol). So, keep that in mind. Right now your spines are just black with large writing on it. So, consider making the TT smaller or even using the one from the movie (you don't have to), and add a pic from the movie in a small box, and then with the war-themed design on the cover, you can add some textured detail to the spine as well.

Hope some of that helps.

Your intentions were in the right place. Unfortunately it's the nature of what we all do here. I've struggled with quality printing for a long time, and it's one of those things where you have to either try your hardest on your own, or just shrug your shoulders and say oh well.

Of course charity is always an option.

Knocked this up quickly for the forthcoming Bloodsport/Timecop combo, but since I don't care for Timecop and REALLY hate combo covers, I'll go with my own cover.

I had to cut out Van Damme of the original poster and repleaced his head with another from Kickboxer. I released that the original creator of the original poster had already replaced his head and it was in very poor condition, so I chopped it off

I agree as well. Although slipcovers are not just being traded....they're being sold as well. But thats being done in the trading forum, so I guess its ok.

I am trying to go as different as I can with the War Collection I am working on. I like the way the studios handle the back covers of BDs so I decided to keep those the way they are. As far as the spines and fronts go, I have totally changed those up.
