Columbia Hires Writer to Adapt R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps

If you were raised during the 1990′s the name R.L. Stine brings back many memories — terrifying memories. He’s the author behind the contemporary horror book series Goosebumps, that features terrifying stories centering on children, monsters, ghosts, and goblins. According to THR, Columbia has plans to bring one (or more) of his stories to the big screen in a feature adaptation of the series.

The trade confirms that Disturbia screenwriter Carl Ellsworth will pen the script for Goosebumps with Neal Moritz and Deborah Forte of Scholastic Entertainment producing. Are we the only ones who feel old? When was the last time you heard the name Scholastic Entertainment? It’s been a while. Columbia picked up film rights to the series in May 2008 and is looking at a family-driven potential franchise.

Over the years, Goosebumps has sold over 300 million copies worldwide and has spawned plenty of spin-off series, video games, and even a TV show. A lot of young actors got their start on the Goosebumps series including Hayden Christensen, Laura Vandervoort, Shawn Roberts, Kyle Labine, and we’re pretty sure Adam West was on an episode or two just for the hell of it.

Our favorite books from the series were “The Haunted Mask” and “Stay Out of The Basement.” If you haven’t been exposed to any of Stine’s works, they’re amazing. They were children’s books but terrifying and a lot better than the material being thrown at kids today.

I can't wait to see this movie after waiting a year and getting no new news
they finally hired writers for the big screen adaption of Goosebumps. Can't wait for the movie as I am still a fan of the book series and still watch the TV show every Halloween. I just wonder if it's an anthology or a one story movie.
