According to to BBC1 teletext pages 546-548, George lucas has stated he intends to release Star Wars on hi-def dvd, most likely Blu-Ray. Industry insiders say a 2007 release date has been suggested. i.e. the year that Lucas had wanted to release the original trilogy. According to the report, Lucas brought forward the release date because he was fearful of piracy, and that there might not be a market for him to release his trilogy. Or perhaps he feels that as the first dvd Blu-Ray player has already been released last April in Japan, by the time he released the dvd in 2007, people may have lost interest in dvd, and instead wait for the Blu-Ray release. This way people will buy the dvd box set, then in 2007 or later the Blu-Ray set. With the deleted scenes oddly absent from the dvd set!?
