-The BDA says it was "inevitable" and holds no grudge against LG for doing it.

-The combo player is a fully functional BD player, but severly handicaps HD-DVD features.

When an unwary consumer, takes their first plunge into High-Def pre-recorded media and gets their first look at HD-DVD and Blu-Ray on this machine, Blu-Ray is going to win hands-down everytime. People are going to ask "Why would I go with HD-DVD when Blu-Ray is so much better?" i.e. better menus, better features, etc.

If I were Toshiba, I'd be very concerned with this combo player. It's not going to paint HD-DVD in a very good light at all. By default, Blu-Ray will always win on this player (based on what we know about it today).

I think this speaks volumes about who LG thinks is going to win this format war. If they truly belived HD-DVD were the superior format, this would have been the other way around, i.e. fully functioning HD-DVD player with Blu-Ray tacked on.

Just a thought.
Ah, a plot worthy of the original Mission Impossible team.
