Blu-ray on PS3 and X-Box 2. ...Halo 3 in widescreen?

Blu-ray will be available on gaming consoles for several reasons. 1. They want it! Few games exist on DVD for the pc, let alone X-box. But people want to use their X-box to watch dvd's. Why? I heard that the processor power make for a better picture on the screen. Thus virtually eliminating compression artifacts. DVD players are built for decompressing of standard audio/video codecs. They don't have the power of X-box, or even PS2.

2. They must be planning on bigger games with BIGGER graphics that play on HD TV's. X-Box supports a resolution of 800x600. That was hot stuff a few years BEFORE PS2 or X-box were even released. They need to move to the next generation and match the 1080 WIDESCREEN capabilities of modern tv's. Writing a video game for a 1080x1600 widescreen is a whole new ball of wax. Graphic templates must be of a higher quality and resolution. You must display info for a 16:9 screen, and not 4:3. This takes much more CPU and memory power. Can you say, "Halo 3"?

Even so, X-BOX 2 and PS3 will probably still have games released on DVD only. CD will be too small, and blu-ray is overkill. Blu-ray is there to play movies....not so much games. These things are craved by High School and College students who will not have the budget, or room, for BOTH a gaming system and blu-ray player.

First person shooters are some of the most popular games. It is HIGH TIME we start seeing them in widescreen.
