I will fully state, at least to me and in the visual sense, it didn't have as much as an impact as in theaters. A 50in Plasma compared to a giant theater screen isn't exactly a duplicate. Now the audio was completely unreal, the LFE and surround stage were absolutely fantastic. The sub actually shook open a closet door in my living room.

Regarding the story itself and my thoughts a second go around (spoilers ahead):

[Show spoiler]
The second time to me the story was straightforward. During the big "heist" they were in a dream. Cobb stated if you die from this point on in the warehouse, you're gone for good. Cut to the end, Cobb and Saito drown in the van in a dream.

Originally I thought to myself that it could possibly be reality in the end, but now seeing it twice, my mind goes straight to seeing it as a dream ending, and wondering why I even considered it to be reality.
[Show spoiler]He never said you were gone for good. No. He didn't. He said you would go to Limbo and would have to stay there until the sedative wore off. Hence, Saito and Cobb in Limbo at the end and them killing each other to come back as young men. To me, he was back in reality and the top didn't matter anymore. He finally say his real totem, his kids.

So was Saito elderly because he died before Cobb did, making him dream for 50 years?

Do you feel the ending was reality or Cobbs dreams?

Smile Sounds confusing.

Sounds like Inception needs repeat viewings whether you like it or not. Like LOST I guess. I'll netflix it, I am NOT opening my steelbook. I'll buy another copy if I like the film.

[Show spoiler]Reality. Nolan has said that the clothes the children are wearing are different, and they are slightly older children. In the dreams he couldn't see his children's faces, and him going back and seeing the faces made me think that is his reality. Like I said, the kids are his totem, because after all the top was Mal's.

There is really no use in debating because we will never know unless Nolan comes out and says it, which he won't. So you think its a dream, I don't. Carry on, carry on.

I'm glad we can discuss this though, since when I saw it in theaters I pondered the ending myself yet when I watched it tonight I was firm in my belief. I'm trying to figure out what changed my mind a second go around, which is why I'm glad you bring up the points you made.

Last post for the night:
[Show spoiler]I think it is reality because the Limbo they were in when they went in to get Fischer was Cobb's Limbo. The one he was in with Mal. Since Limbo is infinite space, I think after Mal stabbed Cobb, Saito was already dead. Cobb died from the stab wound to the chest and woke up back in the ocean. It took him to a time in Limbo where Saito had already aged built his own world. Saito barely remembered Cobb, but he did. And what Saito said brought Cobb back.

The thing about being young men again and such. This lead to both of them remembering the deal and then killing themselves, thus bringing them back to reality. I just don't understand how he could have still been dreaming even if Saito killed him and he woke up in a dream on the plane. That wasn't in Limbo, where he still would have been if he died and it did nothing.

That probably sounds so confusing but it's how I feel about the ending. Reality all the way!

the ending is obvious
[Show spoiler]it's obvious it's still a dream at the end, unless the kids are still the exact same age and are in the exact same position as he remembers AND is in the exact same clothes. the point is he doesnt care if it's a dream or not cause all he ever wanted was to be with his kids, thats why he walked away from the totem cause dream or reality he's where he wants to be. BAM!!!

I didnt have a computer with Internet until 2001. Nowadays, you say, "log in" or "I'm in" and it makes sense to every body. But back then, it didnt. That film was ahead of its time.

I'm just taking a guess. I dont really look at IMDB for how a film is praised. I use metacritic.
I have had internet since it's creation, but that does not influence my opinion. Ahead of it's time indeed.

[Show spoiler]Nolan has confirmed that different actors are used for the kids at the end, and that they don't have the same clothes on either. Having them in the same position was probably done to enhance the ambiguity, it's certainly no smoking gun. From a story perspective, they had to be in that position so the audience wonders if the same thing will happen as before, leaving them question for a second if it is a dream, before we finally see their faces.

"The ending/entire movie is a dream" theories are there if you want them, but I don't. It's just a such a tired cliche in movies/tv, I don't think Nolan would do that.

They're still mistakenly labeling
[Show spoiler]Limbo as Cobb's dream for some reason. It's shared dream space, Cobb's world is still there because he was the only member of the team to have been there before.

I picked this up as a blind buy on Tuesday and just watched it last night. I really liked it and will watch it again later this week to try and pick up what I missed. There is one part that I didn't understand and I'm trying to figure out.

[Show spoiler]Why did the other people that were around keep staring and attack Ellen Page? Same with the bar scene.

I got a chance to see this in IMAX back in AUGUST. I bought a copy last week, and my wife and I finally got to sit down and watch it together last night(her first time watching).
In the scene that takes place in Yusuf's dream(the rainy city-street, van chase), she asked me: "Why wouldn't they just dream to have the cars move out of their way while they try to get Fischer to a secure location?" ......
I didn't know how to respond aside from saying: "Well, they are Yusuf's dream."
I am unsatisfied with my own answer. Can anyone tell me their thoughts ?!?!

>>
Also, I understand the whole concept behind Cobb's totem. Yet, Arthur has a loaded die, and Ariadne has the chess piece. I fail to grasp exactly how they could pull those totems out(while dreaming) and be able to tell if they were, in fact dreaming. Any Help ???

The dream has to be as real as possible, too many anomolies and the constructs will turn on the architect. That's why they did not have say a tank or something when storming the fortress.

That was already done in Bruce Almighty.

That isn't isn't explained in the special features? Odd... The loaded die does not pefectly land each time unless the owner has practiced like with the top, the chess piece is unique in that it was handcrafted, and can be identified by touch. They are things that have both emotional and physical uniqueness because they hold characteristics. You can place one object the same as any next to another object and although they together may define a common resemblance it takes a unique object to identify what is real, and what is dream. This is what the characters must understand to control. Unfortunitly most of these properties are not given, which is why they hold less a value to those in the wrong hands.

I'm willing to bet that Ariadne's totem wouldn't tip over if she hit it...meaning, she's dreaming. It only makes sense considering she tipped hers over once she was finished with it and it fell.
