Next week's numbers will be the final hurdle of the year for a clean-sweep, and it will be gravy after that! Keep buying those titles everyone!
Well I'm pretty surprised how poorly Bourne looks to be doing on HD DVD at my local BB and futureshops..it's just not moving. At the one BB - not at all..not a single copy from Tues to Thurs. The DVD's are flying of the shelves..and the DVD collection seems to be doing pretty well also.

1. I think the Bourne DVD boxset might be hurting the HD DVD in this case..$39 for the 3 movies on DVD or $39 for a single movie that scratches just as badly as those DVD's. They may have killed the sales for the HD DVD version out of the gate at the B&M here.

2. HP is just stealing too many dollars/attention.

3. The hardcore HD DVD fans in Canada have in fact given up at this point..might be different in the States..but just not doing very well here so far..maybe on the weekend something will pickup

4. Combination of the above.

On that note I'm still off to pick up another 10 or so Blu's just in case - feeling kind of bullish about the format at this point. It would be 15 but going to do that spending next week..just to make sure.

How many more copies of planet earth can they sell?!?! Im sure that they have reached everyone who owns DUD by now!
PE will drop off precipitously after the holidays. The Oprah hype really did add a lot of fuel to that title. Also, as you mentioned, PE has fully penetrated the HD-DVD owner base.

Yeah, I think Transformers split alot of ppl. Big enough title to sell players and make ppl choose sides. I agree that if it was on Blu as well, HD DVD would be really struggling right now.

Another great win for our team.

A question though, with this weeks releases, specifically the HP series, don't we all think this will be a true test of blu vs. red. This will be title vs. title, box set vs. box set. Toe to toe as they say.

Also, though many people have said that the Borne movie will not make much impact for the red team this week, it is still a new and exclusive title and honestly, I think there are fans over there who will pick this up, again, look at what they have to choose from, so this may be a sleeper hit for them, not huge like a transformers, but still will add some numbers to thier side.

I again think we had a amazing week, and next week will surely be one to watch. I am heading out to buy a couple more blu movies for the week, already picked up a couple, but will add to the cause.

Every title which has been released for both, with two exceptions, have gone Blu. I have no reason to believe Potter will be different, because neither exception applies to it.

Exception #1) Planet Earth.
Exception #2) Movies with distribution problems for Blu (most Warner titles in November didn't start the Blu-domination until their second week).

With 160,000 for Pirates you get:

1) Pirates 160,000
2) Superbad 59,936

3) Planet Earth 19,808
4) Spiderman 3 16,816
5) Transformers 11.984
6) Live Free or Die Hard 11,840
7) Planet Earth 10,832
8) Pirates: Dead Man's Chest 10,720
9) Ratatouille 10,704
10) 300 8,576
Note that these numbers are first alert numbers. The first alert numbers showed Pirates as coming in well under 100k, as quoted by Dave Vaughn on the AVS forums. Also, note that on this site, it mentioned that Superbad and Pirate's gap was not that large (news on front page).

Just a thought.

Here is hoping that the latest mix-up with the HP Boxsets gives Warner one more reason to quit being neutral and switch to blu exclusive!

Not that the numbers haven't been already posted in the Nielsen thread, I will point out this one little "unbiased" line by the folks at EndGadget...

While the blu camp will certainly be touting their dominance this week, next week will be the real indicator in the format war when both versions of the latest version of Harry Potter go head to head.
Once again, the goal posts have been moved back by the HD-DVD supporters. A whole year's worth of data doesn't count. Just the one week they are hoping to win. Sounds like Transformers week all over again.

Yeah they ignore the simple fact they don't have the titles released last week, nor will they ever.

It's like playing a game against my 6 yr old, he doesn't want to play unless he knows he's going to win. And when he doesn't get his way, he justs ops out of the game.
