upgrading firmware, the future of entertainment

i am 27. i was born with vhs, then i have upgraded to dvds, and today like many of this beautifull community of bluray.com, im enjoying bluray A LOT.

most beautifull format ever.

but there is something that came with, i was okay with it, but it make me ask some serious questions.

i dont upgrade the firmware of my bdp1600 (samsung) often. as i heard lots of horror stories about it (being bricked, being slowed down and worst ) i was kinda afraid to use it. but i have to say in return, all the time i`ve done it, it worked and i never had a problem.

but, why do we have to use it in first place????

on 200 dvds, maybe i had one bad print that skipped a couples of frames on a scene.bad prints happens, and its rare enough.but normaly, you buy a dvd, i`ll even say a vhs, you put it in the machine and it work.
Now with blus, often it works, often you need to upgrade and then it works. we didnt needed that before.

i bought the grimm brothers. it took 10 times to my player to load the audio. i have upgraded it. works fine, its a charm. yesterday i was watching van helsing (the fantasy one with hugh jackman) and it skipped a part.just a couples of frame but enough to piss me off.my bluray was immaculate, no signs of nothing on it, it was a mirror (im obsessed with that) . i took it to the ps3 wich had no problem with the said scene. i have upgraded the samsung to 2.13 (wich was last month`s upgrade i believe) and it works like james cameron on sc-fi movies.it was beautifull.

and it has happened before with other movies.some people have movies that dont even plays.they need to fix it, and some people arent lucky enough to have internet or are just isnt interrested to having one.

is there some money making tricks under this???

i know technology is growing fast and theres is always new encoding and stuffs, but ,isnt it supposed to work as good as a old dusty vhs and a dvd player instead of waiting for the latest upgrade?are they releasing things too fast nowaday and not taking the time to test the compability?

do we want to live in a future that our microwaves needs a new upgrade or we`ll drink our coffee cold?
