With so few titles in any given week selling substantial numbers, it's amazing what does get released on Blu-ray because this is a hit-based business and the majority of titles must sell next to nothing. If I were working for a studio on the BD release schedule and I was only concerned with P&L and not with film history or aesthetics, I'd probably be releasing far less - only the titles that were practically guaranteed to do well.
