Using this cable, you can get 750GB!

Well the trick is to get a 750GB 3.5" SATA drive and use this cable to connect it to your PS3. You can probably use a standard 3.5 external enclosure but without attaching it to its connector; juse leave it open ended.

Ideally somebody would make the male extension of the SATA cable and have an eSATA connector on the other end.

EDIT: After doing more research, I've concluded that the above method would work only if you severe the power cables and use a seperate power cord to power the SATA drive.

I believe this method will work better. It also uses the all important external HDD enclosure. Essentiall, what you need is a SATA drive, an external enclosure that supports eSATA (that's external SATA) cable, and a 7-pin male to a 7-pin female SATA cable. The cable looks like this.
The original photo is a 22-pin SATA cable that provides DATA (the blue cable) and power support (red and yellow). The photo above is just the data cable.

To get it to work with the connector inside the PS3, you need to remove one of the clips (as shown) and file it smooth so that it can fit in the connector. Compare the two male connectors in the two pix and you'll see what I mean. Once that is done, connect the female connector to the eSATA port on the external enclosure.

The only drawback to this is that this cable is not shielded, unlike an actual eSATA cable. If you are good at soldering, you could buy one of these:

then cut one end of an eSATA cable, then solder the wires to the 7-pin male connector.
