Blu-ray Grand Duke

Hello fellow Bluray.com members. My name is Al. Most ppl call me HTG here on this and other forums. I caught the Stereo/HT bug (addiction/obsession) way back in the middle seventies. I had a co-worker who was an audiophile. He had, back then, a killer stereo system comprising of Kenwood electronics, which included the 70lb marble turntable, matched with Dahlquist speakers.
[Show spoiler] One of the finest sounding speakers back then.At this point I was hooked. I just had a cheap Technics system back then. So I then started to subscribe to the usual suspect magazines, Stereo Review, Sound and Vision, Audio Video Interiors (one of my favorite mags), Widescreen Review, and now Home Theater Magazine. Then in the early 80’s I had a short run as a DJ at a local club. This turned me on to one of my favorite music genre, danceable party songs. I had built up a considerable library of 12” long play vinyl albums (which I still own to this day). I am in the process of recording these albums to my Office/HTPC using one of my Technic turntables and older Denon DRA-95A Stereo Receiver using the free open source Audacity software. I now listen to those types of songs plus, Classic Rock, Rock, Classical, Electronica, DubStep and Smooth Jazz. I finally settled down in the mid 80’s and started to build my first HT system along with having the capability to continue mixing record compilations. My first big screen was a 46” Magnavox RPT, Polk Audio speakers, Denon AVR, cassette player, two turntables, mixing board, VCR, and the following year, my first Pioneer Laserdisc player. Since then I have upgraded at least two times every component in a typical HT system. Like most ppl who did own a Laserdisc player we all seem to end up owning two of them. I ended up owning over 70 LDs, which back then was a costly endeavor, when those movies cost on average $35.00 a piece. But I still believe well worth the money considering the picture and audio quality compared to the lowly VCR. I was so enamored with the LDs I actually waited over 18 months after the launch of DVDs before I bought my first, and believe it or not, only DVD player the venerable Sony DVP-S7000 (considered at the time the reference player by all of the known equipment reviewers). Since I waited on that purchase I was able to find a NIB player for what I thought was a great deal at $800.00 vs the original price of $1200.00. Can you believe it $1200.00 dollars for DVD player? ![]() In the middle 90’s I was so into HT systems that I changed jobs and was hired at a small HT company as a system designer, integrator, and installer. What is ironic about this part of my life is I already had a better then average HT system that I had assembled prior to working at the company, and the whole time I worked there I never bought any equipment that I could have had at cost. Oh well, I was a DA (dumb…). I now work for a company that does corporate computer and A/V rental equipment. So hence the name Hometheatergeek. So here we are today with what HTG has in his current home systems (see below). This thread will be under construction as time permits. ![]() Better pictures to come in my gallery. Maybe now I will get some slack from a certain senator AKA LDG and our resident party animal AKA Waboman.
