It's been noted countless times as to why. Because Yoda and Obi-Wan never turned to the Dark Side.

I'm not going to drag out the debate again. But it's all there explained right in the films.

Hmm..ok. Not bying it but ok.

Plus when next we see the Star Destroyer with Vader on board, it's already chasing the Falcon out of the system.
So the timeline and events doesn't really make 100% sense with the original scene. Hence the change.
It was not needed is the point. Just like the "force" in general. It was a mystical thing that had to do with Religion. We have no reason to go open up all this midichlorian junk...all that did in my eyes was cheapen the force. As I have been saying "less is more"...

Really? They explained why the redeemed Anakin looked so much like the Anakin who slaughtered sand people and beheaded prisoners?

I must have been getting more Milk Duds or something.

(Jedi is a terrible movie and I really don't care all that much about this particular change, they could all be in thongs for all I really care. I just think it's amusing that people point to the Hayden days as 'before he was a bad guy, you, back when he was still good'.)

Just wait the argument will eventually make its way back to "Well in the EU book such and such it's explained. You just don't know how many times I have heard that.

But back to the Blu Ray releases.....who else thinks we are going to get shortchanged on the extras in regards to the pre 1999 stuff.

One last time....

Anakin doesn't manifest in either version as a stump missing his limbs, with scars and burns.
He even maifests with hair in clothing he never actually wore at that age. Or at all, as a matter of fact.

Yoda: "Luminous Beings Are We, Not This Crude Matter."

If Anakin can choose to manifest without the damage of his physical form, then why would he choose to manifest in the form of a walking corpse he doesn't even recognize. It's not like Anakin was regularly admiring his corpse-like appearance in his Meditation Chamber.

It also supports the point of view of Obi-Wan, that Anakin did die when he turned to the Dark Side.
In so far as his "Soul" died, and was basically trapped in a walking corpse kept alive by machines.

In most stories involving ghosts, they'll manifest in the form they're most familiar with in life. Why a ghost would appear as a little girl, rather than as the old woman who's been kept alive my machines in haunted house films. It's just an aspect of the mythology.

Also, you'll note that Obi-Wan and Yoda appear smoothly as "Blue Glowies", where as Anakin's spirit seems to struggle when it first appears, fading in slowly with a bit of a flicker. If you listen to the commentary, Lucas notes that Obi-Wan and Yoda also help Anakin manifest via the force. If you go by that, it makes even more sense. Since the only appearance they would be familiar with would be his younger self.

He can manifest as David Bowie for all I care.

I just think it's amusing that people have gotten so invested in defending this particular manifestation as the 'good Anakin'. The Hayden Anakin was not good. He was a murdering douchebag even before he turned.

Right on that!

IGNFF: Do you think that he felt he'd outgrown the need for a set of controls... A "no-man"?

KURTZ:
I don't know. I don't think we ever talked about it in those terms, but I think that he did chafe a bit under the idea of someone saying "that's not a good idea," some of the time. At the very end of Empire ... we decided at the very last minute – we pretty much locked the picture in the mix and just getting ready to make 70mm prints – and we decided that there had to an extra shot at the very end, to identify this rebel fleet.

If you remember how the end works, it's before you go into the medical department, who are working on Mark's hand. It's the establishing shot of the fleet, and we had a shot already of going into the window and showing Mark inside, and we just decided that it was confusing We didn't know exactly how that was sorted out, so we wanted a long shot at the beginning, and then one at the end that shows the whole fleet when the Falcon flies off. They weren't very difficult to do, and all the ships were there ... just pile up the composites, and they were rushed through, just to get it done. Very last minute. One of them wasn't particularly good, and George said, "Oh well, maybe we should just let it go."

I said, "It's worth at least one more go through. One bad shot can ruin the whole movie, basically." Which I really believe is true, and it just wasn't very good. It was just a compositing problem, had nothing to do with the individual shot elements – I can't even remember what shot it was, now. I think making a movie wears everybody down. You have to be really careful of the decisions you make at the very end, because you can kind of throw a monkey wrench in, very easily. "

I think it both of them to make those first two great. I think sadly before the shooting of Return Lucas was going through a rough time in his personal life but also he seemed to become "full of himself" especially after Raiders in that 81-83 time period.

Can you blame Kurtz for being a little sour? I mean Lucas gives him credit for nothing....

Lucas needs to give more people credit for the past..like his ex wife.

I think the real question is what happened to the escape pod between the moment we see it hurdling towards Tatooine, and when we see Artoo and Threepio walking towards the camera.

How did it get to the surface?
How did the droids get out?
How did they decide which direction to walk?

If the 2011 editions don't answer these pressing questions, I will officially be done with Star Wars. FOREVER!!

Or better yet, why did those Imperial Gunners decide to hold their fire on it and not use it for target practice?

This is fun.
Ok here is another topic to "derail" the blu ray conversation:
Rank what order you like the movies. Mine is:
ANH > ESB > RotS > RotJ > AotC >> TPM
Man that's a lot of acronyms.

Star Wars>The Empire Strikes Back>Return of the Jedi> The Phamtom Menace

The other two are not SW films at all...and the only reason I have to buy that Bantha Poodoo is because I want TMP.

Although I am sure this will need to be moved to the movie thread...

That was an easy one for a start. Yes, they chew on the power cables of starships, mainly the hyperdrive.

What's Luke callsign in the attack on the first Death Star?

"Red 5 standing by" that's burnt ino my brain forever. Which racing driver had a Red 5 on their Grand Prix car?

Yes. Especially when they should have thought about the fact that the stolen plans could be inside the shuttle. But anyway, otherwise we would've gotten a very short movie .
