This is exactly THE OPPOSITE of what they've done to this EE release. Because of this the warm feel in many scenes is completely lost, it's completely opposite to how the original was intended to be seen. In the new EE they grossly oversaturated it with green tint.
How old is this documentary?

In my opinion, it sounds like a fact that the current theatrical presentation is how Jackson wants the film to look. To the best of his knowledge, this is also how the EE Blu should/will also look as well.

I think it's safe to say, that at this point they DO NOT look the same.
According to a user on the avs forum, the intro with peter jackson states that the master being shown is the same as the blu ray.

It is possible, that people were so invested in the movie, that they did not focus on the colors.

And some people who actually have watched the BDs (imagine that!) on their calibrated displays at home are not seeing "extreme" green.

It's also possible this new color is to better match the Hobbit movies.

Then Two Towers and King should have been changed as well. They weren't and I doubt that Jackson, who has shot many visually stunning works without the muddy green crap that is in these shots for Fellowship, would have intended for the film to be shown this way.

I feel that he was way to busy producing/directing two massive films, and he didn't have the time to really look at the finished product. At least Spielberg's releases on Blu accurately represent the film as released. That's all that I ask with BD releases. Replicate the theatrical experience, don't replicate current trends with your previous works.

lol, you guys are having way too much fun here. This should be illegal. I can’t keep up. All I’ll add is that Stinky (https://forum.blu-ray.com/4848205-post3148.html)

there is no insane green tint knob on the console, it’s a point and click type thing with the mouse (when intended) on a ‘hue wheel’.

Let's not make assumptions outside of the realm of fact. It's pointless.

All of the images we are seeing are from a dump file, that is illegal, and we have no idea what might have happened to the image while it was ripped. So until some established sites that post screen caps with their reviews post some images, you guys should withhold canceling your pre-orders.

Deep breaths and patience people.
If, as it seems, these are from the actual BD, I would think we have a cause for concern:

I'm only talking as a counter-point to the assumption that the regrading is to make Fellowship more like a possible color palate for The Hobbit.

Why pick on me?!

I hear you! If they had just fixed the DNR and other issues with the TEs and left the color alone like they did with TT and ROTK, we would all be better off!!

Amazing how many people blindly accept them like sheep when they don't know the source and technique used. Someone easily could have pulled a prank on these people.

I am undecided at best at this point and confused as all hell as far as this whole green issue is concerned. If they had just left things alone as far as color like we have been enjoying for almost 10 years now, this thread would be much better off for everyone.

In that case, this entire thread should be closed! lol

It has been stated PJ directed and approved the color change. CASE CLOSED.

You are proving my point, how do we know those are from the actual disc? They look like the dump file pictures everywhere else.

And if the screenshot from Bill Hunt's computer is to believed then the physcial disc is not that green, for that exact shot you linked to.

But we have know way of knowing if that comparison from Mr. Hunt is real, we can't/shouldn't assume that is what it looks like either.

Like i said before, we know of three respectable people that have the actual discs and have commented on it, none have released a verifiable screenshot. Just wait for bluray.com, dvdbeaver, someone like that to review it since they are trusted sources that post screen shots. Then decide.

Thanks,

Wait until Star Wars comes out. People will be freaking out even worse.

"Lucas wouldn't go this far!"

"Fox screwed up like they did on Patton, the Phantom Menace & New Hope DVD!"

"This is not how the colors looked on the special editions!!!"

I have word that George Lucas has become quite fond of the color "hot pink".
