What I find somewhat amusing is the fact that in his original review, Kenneth Brown gave Fellowship a 3.0 for the video PQ, yet we keep hearing how much better this new version looks and it still only manages to muster up a 1.0 increase in PQ. And at that time, this was the intention of the "artist", now once again, we hear this is the intention of the "artist". How much do you want to bet, once these new hobbit movies come out on Blu-ray, things will change again and then we will once again hear......this is the "artist's" intent. The problem with all this revisionism is that after a time it becomes a farce.
Original review snippet: "The Blu-ray image is awash with overcooked colors, oversaturated skintones, and murky nighttime sequences. But since director Peter Jackson and cinematographer Andrew Lesnie adjusted the film's color timing before approving the new master used for this release, it's safe to assume the savory palette is faithful to their intentions." "Altered color timing aside, The Fellowship of the Ring has, quite frankly, never looked as strong, confident and capable as it does here." As I said before, WOW.......the new one ONLY manages to get an extra 1.0 gain. That's pretty pathetic if you ask me. Granted, I think Ken doesn't care much for the color timing either, so perhaps the 4.0 is well deserved. Maybe it would have got a 4.5 or more if the color timing wasn't crapping all over the picture. Last edited by Maggot; 06-27-2011 at 03:36 PM. |

Hmm to buy or not to buy? And no I'm not concerned about the supposed green tint as I probably will not even notice it. Its just that I own the theatrical editions on blu-ray already and I still have the extended editions on dvd. Except for the extended movies themselves, I never bothered to watch all of the extras and probably never will. I do have the money to spend on this right now but funds will be very limited for me in the upcoming weeks and months. Also at first I was slightly disappointed that the movies were split into two discs(like the dvds were) but come to think of it I probably could not watch the entire extended editions of any of the three movies without a break and I do remember getting antsy in the theater watching the original ones as they seemed too long back then. I also read a review on Amazon UK saying that the transfer may not look as good if the whole movie was crammed into just one disc which makes sense.
I do have a question regarding the digital copies. I am one of the few that actually likes digital copies. So I'm guessing that we can watch the extended editions on the computer or ipod/iphone/ipad or whatever without any intermissions or pauses to the movies themselves once you download them, right? Not that I probably would, just asking. Even though the digital copies will not be blu-ray, this may help out the people who do not want to get up to switch a disc and those who always wanted to watch any of these extended edition movies in one sitting, ha. |

![]() I'm looking forward to the first hand evaluations of FOTR over the next few days. Perhaps those of you who feel a need to keep reposting the same information and quotes from reviewers and others could just simply post a link. It gives those of us who have read and reread the same statements, ad nauseum, the option of skipping it. One can only hope that at some point, the moderators will edit out much of the redundant posts to make the thread a better source of info for future readers, who, like me, are trying to decide on a purchase. |

ZonaDVD from Spain posted a comparative analysis between the theatrical blu-ray and the extended blu-ray editions.
They are not very happy with the final results of the last one. http://www.zonadvd.com/modules.php?n...cle&artid=1198 |

Hopefully this thread will stay, a mod will probably delete it or merge it with the other bloated one, hopefully we will NOT get any goofy pics of peoples pre order rings either, like we need that.
I was going to pre order but I will just go up to Best Buy in the morning with my BB coupon and pick it up in Store, plus the manager told me they will have a lot of extras of the Set with the figurines, I would like to check that out, plus this gives me an excuse to go into the store and look at more BD's as well ![]() |

![]() maybe you can use photoshop to alter the tint of R2D2 and the ring so that they can look greenish. |
