I don't mind him, Luke is pretty whiney himself at the beginning of ANH, but as each respective trilogy progresses, Luke becomes more of a leader. Anakin matures as well, but he is still whiney/moody which fits well with his descent into evil, whereas Luke remains a hero.

Anyways, it was Lucas who is responsible for the characters' expressions/moods/delivery throughout most of the films. Watch some of the Revenge of the Sith featurettes, Lucas is telling Hayden exactly how to walk, how to stare, how to turn his head, how to speak and what to say. He had much more control over the acting/dialog in the prequels than the original trilogy.

Hayden has a pretty unique "glare," which really worked magic IMO at the end of Revenge of the Sith

No my problem is with the actor, I have seen him in other movies he is a whiny *****. I was not talking about the directing or the character but after you have seen Life as a House it makes watching Attack of the Clones real hard.

I should have clarified it really is Attack of the Clones I hated him in he was better in Revenge of the Sith so I find it funny you would use his performance in that as a basis for your view when you never said how you felt about him in Episode II. Me personally I can't stand any scene he is in at all in Attack of the Clones, period. But I like him ok in Revenge of the Sith but seeing him in Return of the Jedi makes me wanna puke. That probably doesn't make sense but that is how my mind works.

And WHAT was the point of bringing up Luke? I was not comparing one film to the next so why did you? Are you trying to turn this into PT vs OT because let me make this clear, I LIKE THE PT.

David Lynch never put an animated 90s dinosaur into a 20 year old movie.

Never had either the opportunity nor the universe for one.

The one film he could, Dune, he's pretty much disowned.

Someone like Ben Foster would have been perfect for that kind of role, IMO. That dude has the whole unhinged psycho just waiting to come out thing down pat. Ryan Phillipe looks similar to Hayden but has a much more dynamic range to his performances, he also would have been a great choice for this.

Hayden is not bad in everything, but I feel he was miscast in this. I just couldn't buy his transition to the dark side because I didn't feel the performance was nuanced enough. I think even Elijah Wood shows tremendous range as the Ring gets it's hooks into him in LOTR, compared to Hayden's Anakin.

Anakin's transition to Darth is a dream role for an actor, it should have been Hayden's coming out party as a big-name studio leading man, but I feel it wasn't what it should have been. Maybe it's due to how it was filmed, perhaps it was a lot of green screens after 13 hour days of shooting and he just couldn't commit everything to it, but I feel like it should have been one of the best tragic heroes ever committed to screen, befitting of 30 years of Star Wars legend and myth, but it didn't measure up, to me.

Just my $0.02.

If anyone did get what I wanted to get out of Hayden's performance, then more power to you. I really wish I could see what you see.

There is no doubt about that but the script was pretty terrible too....

If you think the script was terrible and Hayden was terrible... isnt it a perfect cast?

I'm hoping the duels get extended in AOTC. As far as ANH, the only change I really see happening is Lucas going back to "Han shoots first".

That's the one change I'd like to see in ANH, other than the fixed lightsabers and I was thinking the same thing about the destruction of Alderaan.

On TESB, I want the whole Vader and "alert the star destroyer of my arrival" sequence taken out. The editing is really choppy and it disrupts the pacing of the escape from Cloud City.

The saga as a whole, besides the usual, I would like to see all the damage to John Williams' scores undone.

I agree, I didn't even know that was an added scene until some time after the DVD release. If seemed to fit fine with the rest of the movie and the scene.

The script certainly wasnt Oscar-worthy but the best performers can get the most out of a script if its a little dodgy. I dont feel Portman or Christiansen tried very hard. There is a lot of blame being tossed at the script but the actors/actresses also are to take some blame here, IMO.

Either way - I enjoy the prequels regardless of some of the shady dialog and what not.

I'm not Frogmort.

The Prequels aren't good movies at all in my opinion and the changes to the originals are so distracting and pervasive they completely ruin huge portions of the OT for me.

There are some killer fan edits coming out that reconstruct the original theatrical presentations using the highest quality elements available. They look fantastic, the work certain people have done is unbelievable, I'll stick with those. They're so good that I honestly don't really care anymore if the UOT ever gets released on BD.

If he ever decides to release the UOT on BD I'll pick them up. Until then, pass.

Just something I whipped up in about an hour in Photoshop

My video editing/special effects experience is quite minimal, especially compared to some of the other members here

If I can produce something like this in an hour, an ILM artist could definitely perfect the entire scene in a day.

My main goal was to get the lightsabers looking more like the prequels, uniform width from hilt to tip as opposed to the wide-based ones in A New Hope.

First time I've done rotoscoping actually, I've done tons of sabers for images, but none for videos

It was a perfect sequence in its original incarnation. It flowed beautifully and the escalating intensity as the scene progressed is an example of filmmaking at its finest. The Special Edition editing of the sequence... not so much. I don't recall anyone ever being confused how Vader ended up back on the Executer... well, unless you have an IQ under 70. Besides, "Bring my shuttle" just sounded so much more "bad ass" than the lame "Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival."

I might be so bold as to say I could accept Greedo shooting first if it meant restoring that original sequence in Empire.

I completely agree. That one falls under my four most hated changes. For me, the Han/Greedo scene, "bring my shuttle" deletion, "Jedi Rocks", and the substitution of Hayden for Shaw in ROTJ are the four SE changes I hate. Well, the "ronto" in the foreground, blocking the view of Ben and Luke in the stormtrooper interrogation scene in SW(ANH) too. That change has always brought out a "why" from me every time I see it.

"Bring my shuttle" worked because you could hear the anger and frustration in Vader's voice so well. The change hurt the pacing of the sequence, caused them to have to loop the music, and just falls under 'too much exposition' for me. The newer line is dull and pointless and I don't need to have my hand held to understand how Vader got from Bespin to the Executor. The only part of the change I like is the quick shot of Vader's shuttle coming from Bespin and making the turn in the direction of his ship. I thought that was a nice shot but it wasn't needed.

I think there is a small chance for the original Han/Greedo scene to be restored. The others I mentioned, never. I've always hoped that GL would see the stupidity in that change and realize that only those with an IQ around room temperature would ever think the original scene made Han look like a murderer. The subtitles always made it abundantly clear that he was in a kill or be killed situation.
