HDTV Decision!

Yo yo yo! I am in the market for a new HDTV. I have done some research and wanted some input with the type of HDTV and brand.

First, I have looked at various retail stores such as hhgregg and Best Buy at the demos. However, I am not getting much experience out of these items.
I've had an eye on the Panasonic 42ST30. They have good blacks but the overall picture looks more dull and grainy than other HDTVs/brands.

Then I've had an eye on the LEDs: Samsung 40D6000 and Sony 46EX620. The picture is very smooth and bright and good whites. They are thin and light too.
Now, I like to play my games on my PS3, watch sports, blu-ray movies and SD television with CC. I've heard SD is fuzzy and grainy on LEDs. Is that the truth?

This HDTV will be in the bedroom. 3D is not a demand. $1000 or cheaper.
