Both are good brands, Audio Technica( Japanese ), AKG( Austrian ). Audio Technica cans are easy to drive in general, while AKG cans( especially the higher end models like the AKG K701 need a headphone amp to perform their best ).

What kind of dBs are we talking about as far as sound leakage? She'd be 16' away upstairs, and I'm sure most of the sound will dissipate over the big ol' volume of air that my place has.

I had my HD201s on last night, and at -15dB on the receiver, you could only hear them from around the couch or so with full effects. And I was fine with them on my ears, they weren't too loud or too quiet, just fine. Upstairs, they were barely audible. I didn't test w/ my SPL meter, however, which is what I should've done.

The total volume of my place, counting only what is open-plan and open-air (loft) is about 8,400 cu. ft. Jesus.
If you had the volume cranked & she were close, she might hear it. With 16 ft, there shouldn't be a problem.

Ditto...
I prefer open back cans, but I have a couple pair of closed back cans for use in noisier environments.

After watching Battle: LA and Episode I - I'm not sure the place needs 7.1.
If it sounds this good w/ the AA, I can't imagine what it'll sound w/ the Dynamo back.

I really think I overexaggerated how I thought it would sound, the more movies I see.

I think I'll dedicate my next paycheck to acoustic treatments and headphones.

In any case, I think I can squeeze in a 3rd movie...got to be up at 7 for work tomorrow...

Don't overlook those Grado's cause of the looks...they are one of the best cans (if not the best) for under $100.

I tried to read through the past posts but I'm still a little confused...it sounds like you want a decent can for movies and such to plug into your receiver, correct? And you want it to be roughly around $100?

Ok, NOW my thread has gone back in time.

Shoot, man, what have YOU been up to?

I'm still undecided. But yes, you nailed it, as to what I wish to do re: headphones. The SR80is get such GLOWING reviews...but I can't get past the bombardier design. I'm trying...

Woah, I see someone else moved, too! Bizarre - the 3 "kids" of the forum, Sean, you, and I, all moved into completely new places recently.

Thanks guys! But that pic is quite dated, and that's the setup at my old place!

That pic is so dated, that's actually my Philips 47PFL7432D TV, not even my current Kuro! So it must be from Nov or Dec 2008!

Here is an old question, but did you ever finish watching Battlestar Galactica?

I've been in the mode to watch it again, but I have to get to some other movies first that I bought and have not watched yet.

lol, I thought you told me you started, but I really never got any questions about it or you telling me how much you liked it... So, I actually thought something came up where you didn't continue.

*** EDIT ****

Was on netflix, and I thought you were going to watch it.

I know what you mean, times seems to fly by and at other times it moves so slow, so it all kinda become a slight blur.

I have gotten jealous of seeing people move into a new place and have photos of just about everything in place and in order. We bought this house over a year and half ago, and still have things in boxes. Empty rooms, while other have stuff everywhere.

Congrats on the new place, you have some amazing views..

Although we were young when we bought our house (and had other priorities at the time), it took us almost 4 years to really get things starting to look like a house. If you look at pictures of the early years in our house, you would guess we were renting a place. Everything was very impersonal and sterile, just like an apartment where you cannot hang anything on walls or paint.

You guys are already ahead of where we were.

Whew!!! I don't feel as bad now. Sometimes when I come home, I just shake my head, but at no ones fault.

One of the bedrooms, the mattress set is sitting on the floor with the frame sitting next to it... lol

I just can't explain why some things just haven't been done yet. A couple of months ago, my sister in-law came to visit and she had to sleep on that bed.

I know doing/getting things is a little different then when in an apartment. Such as my yard, it looks pretty good, much better then before we bought it. Buying all those yard tools feels good and weird at the sametime.

My downfall is that I cant work or relax untilnthings are in order - my OCD didn't allow it. It drove me nuts!

Lou I'm on the iPad. Halp. We have similar tastes, just yours are farther advanced. Recommend me some apps.

Where did D go? I'm down to the AKG 240s, audio technic a ad7000, or the sr80is.

There is a record store in Miami, where you could demo the Grado cans. Do a dealer search on the Grado website for the location.

Haha yeah definitely...not much man. Just graduated from college in May, got a job with Microsoft, which required me to move to Arizona. And that's where I'm at now. Other than that not much, lifes good. I see the grown up life is treating you well too. How's life in the MIA these days?

Ok back to headphones for a sec. If you don't like the looks of the Grado's try these: Sennheiser HD448

I have a pair and when my gf complains about the noise of my Sennheiser HD650's I use these. They are easy to drive, lightweight, and comfortable. Not to mention good looking and great sounding (especially if plugged into your receiver). I think they would definitely be worthy of a spot in your HT.
