Default Blu Confessions ; Obsessions, Replayability or Both.

Quote:
I didn't see a thread dealing in movies that you'll admit watching over and over during a year, that are on blu-ray. Previously I've admitted the more irrelevant history of VHS/DVD replay value I've gotten from movies such as Jurassic Park, Star Wars etc; But the topic here is a little more complex. Also more specific than a top 10 list, because not everyone who says Dark Knight is their favourite blu-ray, will also list TDK as their favourite movie or exactly admit an obsession to watching it once a month - or something similar. That's what this thread allows.

I see this as a sort of story time outlet for the obsessed among us, or the confession we may crave. e.g "I really like the movie troll 2. I watched it a lot as a kid and snapped up the blu-ray on day 1. I have now watched it once a month since it came out. I can't help it. It still is a cool little movie in my eyes and I love that I am seeing it in high definition! My VHS was worn out." <-- note: NOT MY CONFESSION

It should relate to blu's but you can talk about future blu's within a context of a current confession. And of course no direct attacks on anyone's taste and BS posts if you can help it. Cheers

Confession #1

I was feeling Blu the other day, and I popped in Apollo 13. Having just got my surrounds setup up properly, I felt it time to indulge myself in the new sound experience I'm getting, with Ron Howard's best work, on my 50 inch screen.

=Screenshots coming=

Now that I have my setup basically the best layout can hope for in the living room (aside from maybe upgrading the receiver to do straight decoding instead of bitstream - 3D compatible pass through - and more expensive speakers, though KEF satelites are good don't get me wrong I love em), I've been watching many of my 220+ blu's again to experience the whole soundscape.

Most notably the ones I am obsessed about or feel a strong replay value on this format. And since I've watched some of them as recent as a month ago I have to admit to myself you have a real problem...with enjoying yourself immensely!!12

Apollo 13 is what I'll deal with today. I put it in and instantly I forgot that I had watched it with my father only a month or so earlier - simply because of the thrill the movie is, and knowing "you are experiencing this in the upper percentile of those who love the movie."

Plus it could of been because I cranked the hell out of it too that I was especially loving it The way the space vehicles rattle throughout the soundscape in the moments before the explosion is great. I've never heard it like that before.

I must have watched it 5 times this year. Few times with people, few alone.
==============

The idea that our movies just keep getting better and better at home, and we give ourselves the treat of owning bigger and better displays and sound options to deliver a richer experience with every new phase of technology and our lives - is something I get a lot of excitement about. Then I wake up the next day and realize its draining all my moneys!

Instead of carry on populating the 'great 2011 watching thread' I am going to make my contribution more personal with these confessions. One by one you will have to digest a bunch of text to do with my life that you likely care nothing about - but if it gives you inspiration to think of your own personal experiences that border on or breach obsession? Mission Accomplished.. More from me later.

Current obsession ; The Shawshank Redemption - Estimated 4th viewing this year.

Just a quick thing. The helicopter shot tracking the bus then going over the prison in the beggining with the score and the smooth visual...god. Half the time it gives me that tingly thing - when I feel that, I know that it's for real, and that hope for Home Cinema is maybe the best of things.
