Toronto, Canada.

My local Walmart has no Toshiba HD DVD players but it has a stack of about 10 Ventura HD DVD players, priced at $199. I looked closely at the boxes to see if these are 1080i or 1080p. The box doesn't say.

Shelf space for Blu-ray is 3:1 over HD DVD for movies.

Kevin Arnold's new article in Homemediamagazine.com gave me a startling realization.

If MS and TS insist on dragging the war out this could mean a big change in hollywood.

With VHS and DVD , home movie packaged goods have been a big part of a movie's revenue. With DVD failing if HDM doesnt take over the question won't be how will you watch your movies. It will be will you want to watch them at all becasue they all suck.

If DD's are the future, you can bet pirated downloads are the future and rental on demand. And there goes a giant chunk of hollywood's revenue.

TS needs to pack it in. They can't possibly win and they are hurting everyone who has a future in the movie industry by slowing the adoption of dvd's successor.

It's "If I can't have it, I'll destroy it" mentality

we are in trouble next week with these HD-DVD releases:

January 29, 2008

* Dispatch: Zimbabwe - Live at Madison Square Garden (Warner Music Group)
* King of California (First Look)
* Strauss: Die Fledermaus (Opus Arte)

so I'm think'in 86-14

Strauss: Die Fledermaus is bound to push the number in HD DVD's favor by 10 all on it's own.

You skipped a week. The next numbers are for week ending Jan 27th. This is what Blu-ray is up against:

January 22, 2008
Channels (Vanguard Cinema)
Method Man: Live from the Sunset Strip (Music Distribution)

Mind you, Blu-ray only had 2 new titles as well:

January 22, 2008
The Game Plan (Walt Disney)
Saw IV (Lionsgate)

I think you'll be pretty close with 86:14 though.

MS and TS can't drag it out without help from Universal and Paramount/Dreamworks. Those studios have to want the cash that a new format potentially brings to the table. Our insiders have stated that the wheels are in motion for those studios to move over. I don't think there's much fear of MS or TS being in control of anything.

I will admit that I was surprised that HD DVD had a Super Bowl ad and the BDA didn't.

First of all what the F*$# is wrong with Toshiba? When are those dumb ass going to show some dignity? I'll be honest if I was to buy a Toshiba only to later find out it had no studio support Id want my money back no matter how many days it had been 30 or 60.

Second why isn't the BDA doing they're own SB commercial?

I would fully agree with your prediction, if it were not for the clearance BOGO sale at best Buy that starts on Sunday. The sale will probably skew the sales numbers a little (2%-4%). Expect at least 80% blu. However, a couple of the "clearance" HD DVD titles might sneak in at #9-10 in the High Def best seller list (I hope to be wrong on this).

I know, it may just be the highest selling HD-DVD title to date.

I am just going to through something out there as I understand it someone correct me if you think I am wrong because I am not sure my self.

Ok, How do we find out how many discs have been sold this year?
Well SI numbers were (as of 12/30):
BD: ----- 6.1 million
HDDVD: - 3.7 million
for a 62:38 ratio (62.245 for BD)

Source: http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/...slippage_N.htm
Redhill Group

Now SI is 64:36 and assuming HMM rounds to the nearest whole so it could be 63.499:35.501

So since 12/30 BD had to of sold at least 622k and thats if HDDVD sold 0 and they have some the YTD is 76:24 so sales since 12/30 would most likely be around:

750k:231k

BD has to be more than 622k, but less than 1.5 million to get SI to be 64:36 and then HDDVD has to make up 24% of the total

My best guess for each week would be:

243k:131k (64.97:35.03 week 64.97:35.03 YTD)
227k:40k (85.02:14.98 week 73.32:26.68 YTD)
293k:60k (83:17 week 76.76:23.24 YTD)

763k:231k YTD

The Kingdom was 100.00 to Blade Runner HD DVD 63.37

To get The Kingdom as per Good Luck Chuck's 100.00

(15.81/63.37)*100 = 24.95

So The Kingdom HD DVD was 24.95

Ha, ha.

HD DVD is teh sux!!!

HD DVD Blu-ray

Using that, the listed titles' relations are:

Hmm.. I knew we'd drop a little but it wasn't as bad as I thought, I figured 80:20. I don't know what the big deal is with the superbowl thing. I'm British and I don't follow sport so it just sounds like some silly game of rugby to me. People make such a fuss about superbowl ads it's as if everyone who sees them HAS to buy the product.

They stated in another article that they didnt have time to create a superbowl caliber commercial, so they are skipping it.

Don't worry, all the ads in the world are not going to save this format, nor will it drag on for much longer. A couple more weeks and it will be obvious to everyone that the sales "post warner announcement" are not a "fluke" or a "spike", they are the new reality!

Seriously, how long do you think Paramount and Universal are going to be happy with only %15 percent (COMBINED!) of the HDM market? They know the future is blu and we will see their reaction before too much longer!
