Went to Yorkdale Mall today to check out the Disney Magical Tour. IT definitely attracted a large amount of people to the booth and pretty much everyone who walked by was gawking at the glorious PQ.

Getting started early.

It looks good in my area for blu. At BB, shelf space is 5:1 for blu, demos were all hooked up to blu players. At Sears everone was pro blu saying it was the best choice. It is just a matter of when now.

I hope you don't mind, I snaked the pics and put them on Highdefforum. I expect to get responses like, "who cares no one rents movies from there anymore." Or no one will buy a PS3 to watch movies.

Is that a HDMI cable? And does anyone know what the card is?

I might head to my Blockbuster within a few days to see if they have a display set up.

I wonder if the EBGames at Yorksdale got to sell a lot more PS3s that day.

The one mall that is nearby my place has several stores that sell BD players (Sony, Sharp and Samsung at the original US prices). But most don't have content. Of course some have policies of not playing any commercial content, in this case it's more like the stores and individual salesperson can't afford or don't want to buy 'em. So I usually bring my own content.

On time I was there, I put on Ratatouille, which as you know had PLENTY of ads before the menu starts. People were awed by the Disney ads promoting BD. Another title that got people's attention was Lost. The most attention was paid to Hairspray.

Too bad Sony Malaysia has STILL not launch the PS3. Otherwise people would've be more encouraged to buy them at the stores than buying the really expensive BD players. For now, I'll just go around and spend a few hours in the stores playing my discs.

Love those pics.

I'm sure they sold some Blu players and movies after that demonstration.

Blockbuster near me moved the Blu movies to a section that was empty last week. They got a ton of room to use there. I have to return some disks today. They may have a display up

I'm a store manager at Blockbuster, and we have been selling the Movie Game Bundle PS3 for awhile. It includes the following: Surf's Up on Blu Ray, Motorstorm PS3 game, 20 week rental card (good for one ps3 game or one blu ray every week for 20 weeks), HDMI cable (6 ft), Blu Ray remote, 80g PS3, and, of course, the 5 free blu ray deal that comes with every PS3. They all sell for $600. We've sold about seven so far because it is EASILY the best bundle in town!

We also got our Blu Ray kiosk on Friday, and it looks AMAZING! Nice 42'' Sony Bravia, and we can either play blu ray movies or demo games depending on what customer's like. I for one redesigned my entire store to highlight the station and the blu ray section and it is getting CRAZY attention. We actually had a line for a bit this weekend comprised of people wanting to try it out.

CEO Jim Keyes is trying to work out a deal with Sony to get these in every store by May, but for now they are in about 2000 stores nationwide (out of 5000).

Definitely a win for Blu Ray!

Default BB today

Just looking around as I usually do on Sundays to kill time and I note that there are plenty of HDs still boxed and ready to move, but only a few BDs left around. Nice. Apparently they have been moving well from what one employee said to me.

Bigger thing was overhearing another employee as a customer was asking questions about HDM. The customer kept remarking on the low price of the HD hardware and that the movie selection was similar. The employee though seemed pretty knowledgable on the technical ins and outs of both.

The cutomer seemed ready to go HD, but the employee just kinda paused and said, "Again, sir, I don't get paid on commission and I'd be more than happy to sell you this player if you really feel that you want it, but..." Then he went on explaining the studio support issue among others and basically ended with, "So what you'll probably end up is a good upconverter and that's it, but it really won't do anything more for you than some of the $75 DVD players...and to be honest I don't expect that we'll be having either the hardware or the software beyond the next few months...so I can't recommend it."

Long story short, the guy got himself a Blu player.

Just kinda hit me then that almost the same conversation was probably happening a few thousand other places at the same time.

And Toshiba thinks there's a rebound from this? When retailers are actually actively steering customers away from your product?
