Default sound help please

help i dont have the manual for my surround sound kit so i was wondering if you can help me.

im running an ps3 and i have just started to use my surround sound kit again but i dont know if it supports uncompressed pcm(to be honest i dont realy understand sound to much i just like to hear the best i can) now i tell the disc to play the pcm track and it does output sound but the dolby track seems to sound much better and i thought it should be the other way around.so i just wanted to know if my player did not support pcm would any sound come from speakers?

to be honest the dolby tracks sound much better than there dvd counterparts but i just want to know if my kit supports it.(cant find a model no on kit)
