Just watched this a week ago. Stunning 3D. By far the best live action 3D movie I've seen, visually speaking at least. (Though I personally liked all other elements of the film as well - i.e., the story, themes, art direction, cinematography, production value, etc.). Without a doubt, Hugo is definitely demo material and an absolute MUST OWN for 3D aficionados.

Regarding ghosting, after reading the review from Blu-ray.com, I was expecting the worst. Yet I ended up happily surprised by the consistent clarity of Hugo's visuals. Crosstalk did rear it's confusing ugly head in two sustained instances, and interestingly both scenes were framed almost identically. They were large close ups of faces taking up almost half the screen with the faces slightly emerging out from the plane of the TV glass. The ghosting lasted through the entire shot (between 15 - 30 seconds), was plainly apparent and a bit distracting. However I watched Hugo with 6 other people and no one mentioned it, so maybe it wasn't too bad. Everyone did remark how beautiful the film looked and how fun it was to see in 3D.

I thought I saw two or three other small and fleeting flickers of ghosting on the periphery of the screen that disappeared as quickly as they arrived. If they were actually there, they vanished so fast, I'm not really sure they even occurred. (In other words, not a problem.) Overall, for more than 99 plus percent of the film, the 3D PQ was perfect. I was dazzled.

p.s. I'm viewing on a Panasonic 50VT20 using 3rd Gen (2011) active shutter Panasonic 3D glasses.

Thanks for both your replies. I asked because when I watched it on my active set I noticed two noticeable instances of ghosting, and wanted to be sure it wasn't my monitor. It looks it only happens on active sets.

I avoid post-conversion movies in 3D for the most part such as "Clash of the Titans" because they have never done anything for me.

Currently:
  • The Adventures of Tintin
  • A Christmas Carol
  • Deep Sea IMAX
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (Yes, I realize this was a post-conversion but I got it for cheaper than the 2D release)
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
  • Hugo
  • Journey to the Center of the Earth
  • Journey 2 the Mysterious Island
  • The Polar Express
  • Piranha (Yes, I realize this was a post-conversion but it was done well)
  • The Three Musketeers
  • TRON: Legacy 3D / TRON
  • Under the Sea IMAX
  • Underworld: Awakening
  • WWII in 3D

I have a projector and active glasses and Hugo is the first title I've ever seen that has had a very small amount of ghosting. I didn't find it distracting as it was so quick and fleeting, but I was surprised as ghosting is not usually a problem with projectors.

Just watched a couple (still new to home 3D so I'm watching it alot)

Yogi Bear- Just pointless fun and tons of depth. The trees really sell the depth. And alot of fun pop outs.

A Turtles Tale- This one actually sold my wife on 3D! Until that point she was a hater.. lol

On tap for tonight, Ghost Rider 2 and Drive Angry. A Cage-a-thon!!

My last 3D movie was Underworld: Awakening. What was cool about this movie is that this was a blind buy and this was my 1st 3D movie in which I didn't see the 2D version first.

I did enjoy Underworld and I felt that the movie should've been a bit longer to develop a little better the new characters. All in all, I enjoyed the movie and the 3D was fairly well done.

Received Battle Royale 3D this week. It came in some generic metal case with slipcover, not a steelbook.

Just bought tangled 3d (Hong kong version) off ebay for 17.99usd including shipping. Anyone have this version? does it come in a slim case other US releases? It just seems too cheap considering it retails for about $50usd here.

I did not know about this release. I'm interested to hear how this is when you get a chance to watch it. The exchange rate is killer, but I could ask my friend to send me a copy in the post.

My apologies for the delayed response, the disc is Region B coded, does not play in my Region A player.
