EDIT: Just did a quick lookup to satisfy my own curiosity. The most expensive color laser printer Best Buy sells (Brother MFC-4570CDWT: $599) has a dpi resolution of 2400 x 600. On the other hand, the cheapest printer they have under their Photo Printers category (Epson - Artisan A50: $99.99) has a dpi resolution of 5760 x 1440. That's a pretty considerable difference, made even more so when you consider what you're comparing. Last edited by enigma; 08-27-2012 at 12:29 AM. |

This is now my next project. As I'm sitting here debating which to do next, I totally neglected the fact that my TV shows are grouped together and only a very select few don't have slips and it drives me crazy. So my very next project is to slipcover the remainder of my TV shows. I'll start with Serenity to see what I can whip up (and then move onto Firefly and the TV series').

They use something like this. And for slips I think they use something like this. I mean if you have a few hundred grand laying around then you can get that bad boy right there. Maybe we should run a kickstarter for one. ![]() |

All of these customs look great, but they still for the most part look like customs. I know that I personally would only want a custom slipcover if it actually looked like it could have come from the studio. Especially the spine, which is where a lot of these are coming up short.
And nobody has done the most obvious custom slip yet, which is one I've wanted to do for a while. I'll eventually try and get it designed, but until then, I'm not going to say what it is unless somebody guesses correctly. |

Here's my first go at Serenity:
![]() ![]() This is only my fourth slipcover, so I'm still tweaking the process. This is also the first I've used actual photo paper on. It was 51lb Kodak soft gloss. And for being less than half of the weight of the cardstock I bought (110lb), it really doesn't feel that much lighter. It's noticeable, but not by much. Quality-wise, it did appear to make a slight difference (as expected), but honestly, I think I'm more partial to non-gloss. I still have to buy a pack of matte photo paper and see if that's perhaps the happy medium. |

I definitely think you guys need to take a que from the cover art folks and add the logos on the spines, but I'm still impressed with the amount of work you've put into each of your slips. Thank you for sharing and I'll second the love for the Serenity slip. Very nice, can't wait to see what else you've got up your sleeves.
