They could have Iron Man and Hulk in an episode without actually having the actors play them since they're cgi. Only some voice-over work.

What I was thinking too.
Shield is a great idea for both cameos and keeping costs down (for a TV series), while having good stories still in the Marvel Universe.

Makes sense to me, let's hope they can do a good job with it.

As long as we see Ms. Marvel at some point in the series I'll be happy. And not in her current Captain Marvel costume either. It should be either the classic:

Also, if Marvel regains the rights for DD, I could imagine another TV series where the less "flashy" superheroes of Marvel, that are more grounded in reality, would appear:
Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, etc ...

Shield sounds like a good idea. But thinking of Avengers (title of the thread), how about West Coast Avengers (this way there won't be a TV series/movies issue)

Hopefully this gets picked it. It has the potential to be awesome.

It could also be a great way for Marvel/Disney to test out some of their lesser known characters. If they're likeable and become popular, it could warrant a big screen feature for said character.

It's time to assemble S.H.I.E.L.D.'s cast, Avengers fans!

ABC is moving full-steam ahead with their pilot centering on Marvel's peacekeeping organization (which is led in the films, at least, by Samuel L. Jackson and includes Cobie Smulders as an agent). The pilot is being executive produced and co-written by Avengers director Joss Whedon. First up? Casting S.H.I.E.L.D.'s new team members and we've got the inside scoop on the characters fans will be introduced to in the pilot.

So get ready because it's time to meet the new agents entering the Marvel universe!

Agent Grant Ward is deadly, precise and cool under fire. He's just doesn't play well with others due to his not-so-great people skills. He's volatile, but a decent guy with morals whose charm will eventually come through.

Soulful and quiet, Agent Althea Rice (a.k.a. "The Cavalry") is an ace pilot, weapons expert and soldier who is a bit damaged from her combat experience and has gone beyond the call of duty.

Finally, there's Agent Leo Fitz and Agent Jemma Simmons, also known as "Fitz-Simmons" as the two spend all their time together. Think more along the lines of a brother and sister who always bicker and annoy one another. They came up together and are masters in their fields: Fitz is good with weapons and gadgets while Simmons is into science. Yes, they are huge nerds (and also attractive).

Now is the time to put on your casting hat, people. Which actors would you like to see star in S.H.I.E.L.D.?

Coulson Lives!!!

If you’ve been wearing a black armband in tribute to Agent Phil Coulson since The Avengers opened last May, it’s time to rip the thing off, because you’ve been mourning a decoy. Well, we can ramp up the theory that we saw a Life Model Decoy stabbed to death by Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in the movie, but we’ll have to wait for the S.H.I.E.L.D. television series to know just how the character survived.

Apologies to anyone who hasn’t already seen The Avengers (what’s wrong with you?) and has now been spoiled that Coulson is killed off, but now he’s alive again so I guess it doesn’t matter. At the New York Comic Con Marvel television panel today, actor Clark Gregg hit the stage and then was joined via video by Avengers writer/director Joss Whedon and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige for the announcement that Gregg will reprise his franchise-connecting role as the lead on the show.

The scoop comes to us from Comic Book Resources (covering the whole panel):

“We all love Clark Gregg, there’s no doubt about that,” Whedon said. “From before we made ‘The Avengers,’ we discussed whether there was a way for him to be a part of the Marvel Universe, perhaps a part of a TV show even after his death. … The fact of the matter is, as much as we love him, now that I’m really running Marvel, I like to keep a type of artistic integrity, which means we don’t stretch the bounds of reality.”

“There was never going to be a S.H.I.E.L.D. show without Agent Phil Coulson!” said Feige, who appeared behind Whedon, wearing a COULSON LIVES shirt.

“He’s headlining the S.H.I.E.L.D. show and always was.” said Whedon.

Coulson himself acknowledged the LBD possibility, and he also referenced the theories that he’s Vision, but it’s been made pretty clear that the series won’t really include superheroes. LBDs were alluded to in The Avengers when Tony Stark answered a call from Coulson saying that the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent had reached his life body double, and they were previously mentioned in Iron Man 2. So they do exist in that universe.

While the explanation will surely matter and could lead to an introduction to Vision later on, whether he’s Coulson or not, the only thing to care about right now is that Coulson lives and we have a very proper character link between films and series.

I also just got back home from AdventureCon in Knoxville. Alan Tudyk was one of the guests. During the Q&A, I asked him if he was going to be involved with the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series, since Joss Whedon tends to use a lot of the same actors and actesses in his work. Alan said that he is not, due to his current commitment to the Suburgatory TV series. That's a big bummer...based upon the above, I think he could be a good fit for the Leo Fitz character.

Summer Glau Could be Apart Of The S.H.I.E.L.D TV Series

IGN: So I’ve got to ask… Your buddy Joss [Whedon] has a new TV show percolating, and he’s been known to make use of your talents in several projects. So is that something you’ve had any conversations about? And do you think you’d look good in a S.H.I.E.L.D. jumpsuit?

Glau: "Well, I have my fingers crossed behind my back. I try not to say anything to Joss about anything he’s doing because he has so many actors, and I know we all want to work for him. So I don't know, but if I could be a part of it in any way, of course, you know I want to".

Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Series to Star Ming-Na Wen in Lead Role

It looks like Ming-Na Wen (ER) will be joining Clark Gregg (The Avengers) as a lead role in ABC’s television series, Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. We previously reported that Gregg would return to the franchise’s famous security organization as Agent Coulson, albeit on the small screen this time. Wen will play Agent Melinda May, an ace pilot and weapons expert who often goes beyond the call of duty, but is showing signs of mental fatigue due to her combat experiences. With Joss Whedon on board to write the co-write the pilot script, you can expect a powerful and dynamic character in May and a more-than-capable actor to bring her to life in Wen.

Deadline reports that Wen will join Whedon’s TV series, Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC. Her character sounds like it fits the bill of Agent Althea Rice from the previously reported character descriptions:

We know Coulson will return to the show as well, which leaves four more roles to fill, if those descriptions still hold true today. Whedon is co-writing the pilot script with his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, who will all executive produce along with Jeffrey Bell and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb.

Wen’s career spans both live-action and voice roles, with some of her most recognized work being in television (except for the fans who may know her as Chun-Li from 1994′s Street Fighter). She’s also recently starred in series SGU Stargate Universe and Eureka.

Haven't seen her in anything, but I'm extremely excited for this project so I'll have to wait and see. I wonder if Cobie Smulders will have a role in the series too. I wouldn't be too surprised if she made a few appearances at least.

She played a recurring role in the final 2 seasons of Eureka.
