720 better for sports and action?
I’ve read in a number of articles that 720p is best for sports. Fox chose to broadcast in 720p because they want to be the football channel. I always wondered why 1280×720 at 60 FPS would be better than 1920 x 1080 at 60 FPS? In reading a recent thread on the Blu-ray forums about 1080i vs 1080p it came up again. I think for the first time I figured it out. They were never comparing 720p to 1080p they were comparing 720p to 1080i. It’s the interlacing that causes the problems with fast motion right? Broadcasting in 1080i to TVs which have many different display settings, could cause banding and other issues with the translation of the signal to make the image look less than stellar. Other than Blu-Ray via HDMI and PS3 trailers are is there any other 1080p video source right now? Will there be in the near future? So far I think all the download services, cable and satellites are either 720p or 1080i right? |
