Like Iron Man 2 has some super high dialogue I think compared to other movies. I've tried listening once at -18dB volume in the scene where they fight off all those drones in that dome and I thought that was just crazy loud. Of course I can do another movie at -18dB with some action and it could give me a completely different reading on SPL. I know that Iron Man 2 scene was kickin butt with the XV15 though.
There really is no standard for soundtrack encoding, so there's really no correlation between different movies. Same with TV programs; you never can tell what any of them needs to be set for until you start watching it.

I have a XV-15 coming tomorrow and can't wait. Have tooled around with several entry level subs for the past 10 years from KLH, Harman Kardon, to my current JBL Venue. I can't wait to experience the difference of having a real sub! I am loving all of the positive responses from the XV-15 owners. The fact that it does great for movies and music really excites me! Once I get it going in a few days I will post some non-technical thoughts coming from a newbie to better performing audio!

So I received my monster XV-15 today just as Goat said, it's a big boy! I also received 2 Aperion Audio Intimus 4t towers and a 5C center channel. I ran Audessey and came back with some strange #'s...it set the two towers' crossover to 40, and the center to 120? I thought that was a little odd, so I moved them all to 80. Under the sound level check, it put left tower at -1DB, center at -4DB, the right tower at 0DB, and the sub to 0DB. Do these numbers seem normal? I was going to redo Audessey tomorrow because I purchased some better speaker wire. If I get the same results, I may bump up the crossovers to 100. I had the sub's gain set at around 1 o'clock. The sub almost seemed muted...even with Audessey's test tone. Like the sub wanted to do much more but I was holding it back some how. When I was listening to music through Pandora via Directv, it almost seemed like All the bass was going to the center channel? So I am pretty sure I need to redo my calibration and see if that fixes it. If not, I will call or email Tom to set me down the right path.

Forgot the mention as I know it will come up...the towers were automatically assigned small which is what I kept.

First question I have is did Audyssey set your fronts to large speaker size? Seems with that low of a crossover that it did. If it did, change them to small. Same for your center but with the crossover on the center set to 120, I'm betting your center is set to small already. The numbers dB-wise for each channel is rock solid. Make those changes and re-run Audyssey. Now on the subject of gain on your sub. According to Tom from PSA, you will want to start out at a 2 o'clock setting on your gain. Phase at 0 and crossover turned all the way up to 150. The gain on a PSA sub is different from other sub manufacturers you might be familiar with.

Try those things and it will be night and day to what you have heard.

Edit : Read your second statement after I typed this out. UGH! Seems unusual that the crossovers were so low on your fronts... I would make the changes possible as I described and rerun...

Thanks Magicmonger, I will make those changes tomorrow. I thought it was very weird that my front (mini) towers crossover was set at 40 but assigned small? I will take your advice, bump up the gain and play with the crossovers and see where that gets me. Thanks for the response!

Forgot to tell you, everything is squared away now. After all the commotion, all it needed was a slight turn on the gain, and boom! The chest pounding that I was looking for. I kept the fronts crossover to 80, the center at 90. The sub line is a little hot at -7, but I like the thump. I might try and get it down to -5, but I enjoy it where it's at! Very happy now!

Yeah, I remember the conversation I had with Tom on the phone and he made sure I understood that the gain knob needed to be at 2:00 cause it was more of a logorithmic (sp) gain than just linear for the PSA's gain... That's great to hear congrats...

Been lurking here for years and finally recently signed up while keeping an eye on this particular thread.

I have to tell you, I am positively jacked up to get an XV15. I contacted Magic via PM to request an audition which he has graciously offered to do in a few weeks but I don't think I can wait!

I exchanged emails with Tom last night (on freaking Sunday night!) and he answered all my questions and made suggestion based on the room diagram I sent him. Terrific service.

One of the first things I want to do when I get one of these setup of is listen to the track Unsustainable on the new Muse album, 2nd Law. I fully expect to have my face melted off.

I've only had my Paradigm PS-1000 for a few weeks. I picked it up on Craigslist for $50. Even that sub has really improved the overall quality of my system. The wife and I watched The Cabin in the Woods as our inaugural first subwoofer movie and it made a huge difference. I can't imagine what an improvement an XV15 will be.

So anyway, I'm glad to have discovered this forum. Seems to be a very friendly community.

Tom handled my sale the exact same way Justin. He was willing to call me from his home that evening about any questions I might have on the purchase of the XV15. You can't put a price on CS such as that. That's just priceless...

I'll have to see if I have anything you don't already have. I suppose if I already have an XV15 by the time we get together, I can bring it with me so we can hear what two of them sound like together. Although I doubt I'll be able to get it in the back of the truck without a forklift.

Hard to imagine anyone beating that kind of service, although I've heard positive things about some of the other ID companies (but not all of them).

Hi all, Thank you for the comments regarding our products and customer service. We fully intend to set the bar *high* in both regards.

Also, a quick update: We have had a incredible "run" on XV30s in the past week or so. Thank you to all who ordered of course! Bad news---we will be out of XV30 enclosures for a short period. All current orders are okay(being built this weekend for shipment Monday). But any new order as of 11/16 (2pm) will be delayed. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause anyone.

XS15 and XV15 will continue to ship out within 1-2 business days of ordering.

That's great news Tom, sounds like PSA is taking off like a Saturn 5 rocket.
