Independent British distributors Artificial Eye will release on Blu-ray acclaimed director Michael Haneke's latest film Amour (2012). The film stars legendary actors Jean-Louis Trintingnant (The Conformist, Red), Emmanuelle Riva (Hiroshima Mon Amour, Leon Morin, Priest), and Isabelle Huppert (Heaven's Gate, White Material). Street date is March 11th.
French drama directed by Michael Haneke exploring death, ageing and the fear of loss. Anne and George (Emmanuelle Riva and Jean-Louis Trintignant) are a couple in their 80s who are enjoying their retirement, but that changes when, after an operation following a stroke, Anne is left wheelchair-bound and paralysed. Although she expresses her wish to die, even going so far as to make an attempt at taking her own life, George tries to remind her of the beauty and worth of life itself and the love that they share for each other.
Note: Austria has chosen Michael Haneke's Amour, which won the prestigious Palme d'Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, to represent it at next year's foreign language Oscars. In the U.S., the film, which is distributed by Sony Pictures Classics, will open on December 19th in New York and Los Angeles.
The UK cinema release is from Friday, 16 November 2012.
