Had a busy week at school so I was away for a couple of days. Doesn't look like I missed anything, somehow we stopped arguing if Vader should be brought back to discussing Lucas love life? That will teach me to be away from this place for any significant length of time.

You didn't miss anything, other than Lucas directed some 2nd unit stuff on The Godfather, and gave advice to Coppola on the "Hospital" scene, greatly improving it in the editing room. Oh, and Kathleen Kennedy states she wants LucasFilm to produce 2-3 films a year. Not 2-3 SW films a year, just 2-3 films a year.

Well maybe Lucas has the "Ron Jeremy" advantage!
Or she just really loves him....while rare love does happen in Hollywood.

How DISGUSTING! Really. Shame on you.

So, you have the ability to look into strangers' souls?

WE can only make assumptions, and that's not a very healthy or noble path to take in such a case.

Lucas is an extremely smart, nice, and funny guy. Looks aren't everything.

Some people do care about what really counts: One's personality.

Me too! I have been wanting to see this film for so long!
A blu-ray release would be a godsend.

Ya he's a real nice guy I loved how he told people that paid to see him to grow up and these are his movies

George Lucas has given me far more than he's taken away, and for that I'll always be grateful! My point is even further reinforced by the fact that he will continue to give me more through this phenomenal deal with Disney.

Kudos George, you keep hitting 'em out of the park!

Good job posting this. There is a tendency to assume the worse in women regarding celebrity relationships. Hopefully this puts a stop to any golddigging discussion.

His partner is lovely.

Well I wouldn't say its ending the golddigging discussion. Ya she has money but nothing like what GL has.

Right - as in you are now quite the "bargain"

Ya know what? If a well-heeled person is content to have a relationship based on cash & some good "action", so be it. Maybe there is no love involved? If both parties are OK with it then its good with me.

LOL, that would cover a good amount of history's Royal weddings/unions over the last 20 centuries!

Thank you for pointing that out. I did not know that, so it makes my point pretty invalid .

In any case it's none of our business. The tendency for people on the web (frequently incredibly unaccomplished people) to discuss intimate details of the lives of people who they don't even know is really astounding. I really love it when some guy who's never accomplished anything than scoring on a videogame feels they can rip apart someone who has accomplished much, even if they've done so with faults. (Not saying you're one of these people, just commenting in general).
I'm sorry if it came across that I was ripping him apart or something, I didn't mean to - if they're happy and at a mutual understanding, I wish them all the luck in the world.
I think Lucas is a wonderfully creative person and, despite the flaws with the prequels, has created a rich and exciting universe that future generations will continue to enjoy. I'm glad that he's found someone who - as Rainhurt points out - clearly isn't with him for his money, and is happy, as cheesy and cliched as that sounds...

Okay, we can strike another name off the list.

Direct from Brad Bird's Twitter:

"Not doing Star Wars."

"The science fiction film I AM doing is gonna be cool."

"I'm not slamming Star Wars. I'm just doing "1952"!"

"Michael Arndt is a fantastic writer and Kathy Kennedy is a brilliant producer. I will be first in line to see the new STAR WARS."

awww BB would have been a great pick. Maybe he can do Episode 8!

hmmm...he DID retweet the guy who asked "Episode VIII (then?)". So there's still hope for a BB-directed SW film....in 2017 lol.

I'm calling it early and telling everyone, it's going to be Joe Johnston.

Good news! At least IF there are IMAX scenes shot for this film, there will be a chance of them making it to the blu-ray release!

Yep, i'm right there with you on that one, Col. Seems like the perfect fit, and they can also remind audiences that he directed Jurassic Park 3 and Captain America if required to instill a sense of confidence. Do we have any contenders for Joe Johnston? Anyone?

Never realised he was so down with the kids in his vocabulary . It sounds like he may have been approached, though - "not doing" sounds like he turned the offer down.

Ah, well. 1952 sounds awesome.

I was going to say he sucks and thank god but then I saw Ratatouille, and the incredibles on his resume and I'll just say he wouldn't have been right for the project

Bird would've directed the best episode since Empire. I was thoroughly impressed with his grand slam of Ghost Protocol which was his first live action film and arguably up there as an action film. I'd not seen a director with that kind of fire since Spielberg with Raiders.

Bird was the best man for the job. Favreau has two knocks against him with IM2 (not his fault but he can't direct action without a collaborator) and Cowboys and Aliens was a bust.

Spike Jonze was talked about for AOTC and his name is the only one that hasn't been thrown out except for myself. And I'd argue his background mirrors George's.

I agree that Brad Bird is a brilliant director and would have made a decent Star Wars film, but Spike Jonze? IMO he's too idiosyncratic for this series. He makes brilliant films, though.
