This is our third year doing the top films of the year, and the past two years were a lot of fun. Post your list of your 20 favorite films that were released in 2012.
Each of the films will receive a certain amount of points based on how you rank them. Last year we decided to try something new for this year by making your number one position worth 5 extra points (if you post a complete list, read rule #3), so here is how the rankings will work: 1. 25 Points 2. 19 Points 3. 18 Points 4. 17 Points 5. 16 Points ..... 16. 5 Points 17. 4 Points 18. 3 Points 19. 2 Points 20. 1 Point So please make sure you rank all your films from most favorite and down. Don't put them in random order! The final deadline will be February 20, 2013 - 12am Pacific Time. That gives us over a month and a half to watch all the films you still want to see and update your lists. The results will be posted just in time for the Oscars telecast! RULES 1. How to determine if a film is eligible - A film must have been released either limited, wide, on demand, or straight-to-dvd (which ever comes first) in the United States in 2012. This does not include film festivals or released internationally. It may be hard to determine if some films were released in 2012 or not, so that's what the strict rules on this are for. Use the release dates on IMDb if you are unsure if it's eligible. For example, The Raid: Redemption was released in some countries and festivals in 2011, but did not get a limited release in the U.S. until March 23rd, 2012. So that film will count as eligible. Likewise, Zero Dark Thirty doesn't get a wide release until January, but it had a limited release on December 19th, 2012. So it will also count as a 2012 film. Classic films that were re-released ARE NOT ELIGIBLE, such as Titanic, Finding Nemo and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Please do not include them on your list. If you're unsure if a film is eligible, just ask and we will help figure it out for you! 2. Please only make one list - Make only one list on this thread. However, you are free to update and change your original post as often as you'd like until the deadline. It will make tallying very hard if there are multiple lists from one person. Just find your original post and click 'Edit' to make your changes. 3. How lists with less than 20 films will be counted - We had a lot of debate about this last year, so here is what we came up with. You are free to post as many films up to 20 as you wish (even 1 if that's all you want to post). However, if you post less than 10 films, your list will be pushed down to position 10. So your #1 will be worth 11 points instead of the full 20, #2 worth 10, and so on. This is to encourage everyone to post as many films as possible. If you post between 10 and 20 films, they will be worth the full points as listed at the top of this post (except for your number 1 film, it will be worth 20 points. In order to get the extra 5 points, you must list a full 20 films). Sorry to make it confusing, but this keeps it as fair as possible! Previous Years:
