As far as I can tell the TV has the final say of the picture being either 4:3/16:9 when upscaling the 480i/p 4:3 picture.

So if your Sony has a 4:3 setting then you should be OK
If not and you (same as me) cant stand the 4:3 picture being stretched then I really would not recommend the 875. But if you're Sony (like my Toshiba) has a 4:3 setting as one of the picture layout setting modes then you should be fine with an 875. Hope this helps you out

Yeah my tv does have have the option to strech or not so good the 875 won't force it to.
How do you feel about the upscaled 480i sources do they look better or just magnified the imperfections? How about hd cable at 1080i are they alot better looking to?
