DiCaprio for Blood Diamond as well. Personally I think he should have been up for Revolutionary Road too, I thought his performance, whilst not showy, was the srongest of the film. Even above Michael Shannon.

Even though I'm not a big Leo DiCaprio fan, but he gave a superb performance in The Basketball Diaries.

It really makes you wonder if there was any point to expanding the Best Picture nominee field, if they are essentially automatically going to pick one of the ones also nominated for Best Director anyways.
Also, I don't know if it's right that the first film in 31 years to grab all four acting nominations is Silver Linings Playbook. Maybe it is right though. |

It started rather coincidentally the year after everyone grumbled that Slumdog Millionaire won for 2008, even though no one was particularly excited it being "all they had" in the lineup, followed by wondering why Pixar's Wall-E "had" to be exiled off to its annual pickup of Best Animated Feature. Gee, wouldn't it have been neato if it'd been Wall-E versus Slumdog?--We'd have tuned in to watch that! Too bad there're probably rules against that...Uh, what're the rules against it again, anyway? The next year, they decided to (ahem-ahem) "Up" the ante by trying to follow the Golden Globes' lead for nominating Comedies and Musicals and getting "more popular mainstream movies" into the lineup...Anyone want to hazard a guess which mainstream movies they had in mind? ![]() In 2010, Toy Story 3 was considered one of the Top Five runners, alongside Hurt Locker and Social Network, and finally "broke the glass ceiling" where those same '08 complainers were concerned. Last year and this year, Best Animated has felt the loss of Pixar, with only Cars 2 and Brave in the running, and coincidentally enough, those same years...the Academy has started saying "Well, maybe we don't need ten nominees, we could do eight or nine... ![]() Last edited by EricJ; 01-11-2013 at 07:12 PM. |

No, ABC was concerned about declining ratings, and there were many complaints about the exclusion of the Dark Knight. So the Academy expanded the field, hoping the change from 5 to 10 would draw more viewers. That's what happened. It wasn't about Pixar and Wall*E, it was about ratings, and complaints about the exclusion of the Dark Knight in the Best Picture category.

Now, hands up, those kids five years later who remember Wall-E getting a Best Picture nomination when it didn't. ...I hope to rest my case about Committee motivations. ![]() (Don't mess with the Pixarista Oscar voters, they've been nonstop pushing for a Best Picture win since Toy Story 2. They campaigned to give a Best Actor to "Ratatouille" just to hope to get a Picture nom the year after, how scary is that? ![]() Last edited by EricJ; 01-11-2013 at 08:11 PM. |

Here's the newest ones from the actors. You can find last years too, with actors and Directors.
I would post the writers one on here but it was really boring and the first 15mins was the interviewer focusing and picking apart Mark Boal and his Zero Dark Thirty script. |
