I'm sort of hoping that Criterion will release Bedazzled as spine # 666.

Does this mean Trafic, Mon Uncle and M. Hulot's Holiday will never be on Criterion blu-ray?

Actually....

...and I'm being dead serious here...

In a perfect world, Criterion would release Jacques Tourneur's Night of the Demon as spine # 666.

It's more apparent how much Kubrick was influenced by the film when he made The Shining. The actual colors of Marienbad are quite similar to those found in The Shining's ballroom. Lots of gold, pinks, reds, etc.

I kind of want to see the film in color now. I know that's blasphemy. It looks like it would be amazing though with all those vivid colors.

I just finished up watching Week End...

Week End

If you were to take the 1960's notion of Art, Literature, Film, Music, Politics, Religion, Greed, and Sex, throw them in a blender, dip in your paint brush and throw them up on screen the end result would land you pretty close to Week End.

This chaos is not for the fait of heart.

I once heard Godard called a film terrorist, and if that is true his particular brand of terrorism has evolved past film to shake up everything from pop culture to politics. Week End is set is a fantasy world (although it may be more true than we would like). An almost post apocalyptic look at the dark side of humanity. Godard often deals a heavy handed critique, often in the form of long monologues, but he still manages to keep things from toppling over the edge of his own pretentious ambition. Almost as a parody of himself he plays a very tongue in cheek hand of cards. His characters complain about the film they are in because they only get to meet crazy people. Our protagonists themselves may just be the craziest and most sinister of them all.

Oh the color, Week End is simply beautiful. The first half of the film is drenched in a red and blue color palliate that is reminiscent to the LSD fueled fever dream Godard is aiming for. As we go deeper down the rabbit hole towards the end of the film the color shifts to yellow and blue.

If you are thinking about this film as your first Criterion or first visit to the films of Godard stay far away, this film is not for the causal viewer, however if you want to go a bit deeper with the themes of humanity's dark side then watch with confidence. But don't say you weren't warned about what you would find there.

I was always a fan of Blue, but after watching it a couple of times recently, my estimation of it has only increased. Juliette Binoche is an extraordinary actress. Very powerful film.
I like White, but it has never really matched the other two films for me. Having said that, I know a couple of people who rate it higher than the other two.
. Kieslowski, Godard and Bergman knew how to pick their leading actresses.

Well there are always posts with people's top 10 criterion films on this forum. How about the top 10 most beautiful and talented actresses on criterion.

Here are my top 10 leading ladies on the criterion collection (in no order, they are all 10 s in my opinion):

Catherine Deneuve (Belle de Jour)
Irene Jacob (The Double Life of Veronique)
Anna Karina (Vivre Sa Vie)
Jean Seberg (Breathless)
Harriet Andersson (Sawdust and Tinsel)
Bibi Andersson (Seventh Seal)
Monica Vitti (L' Avventura)
Nastassja Kinski (Paris, Texas)
Marpessa Dawn (Black Orpheus)
Maggie Cheung (In the Mood For Love)

Very difficult to leave out of the top 10: Liv Ullmann, Juliett Binoche, Anouke Aimee, Bridget Bardot, Setsuko Hara, Louise Brooks. Very beautiful actresses

Thank you for the correction. How about your top ten iScottie. I don't know if you can include Audrey Tautou (no criterion film released with her in it). I would love to see a criterion release of A Very Long Engagement. Then I would have to rethink my top ten.

French label Wild Side will be releasing Mann' Thief on BD sometime this year. It bodes well for eventual Criterion release
