From a logical standpoint Medium Def is a more fitting term for 720. If my boss turned up at work tomorrow and dumped a 1280x720 monitor (yes, even under 42") on my desk and said "here is your new Hi Def monitor", I'd tell him to get ****ed, I wasn't using it.
