I'd like to have official confirmation for SCANNERS before I plunk down for the import. Would also love to upgrade THE ELEMENT OF CRIME.

No, the Criterion transfer is a new one supervised by Laszlo Kovacs, with a higher bitrate and file size. They've also added an additional commentary track, documentary, and interview (as well as porting over the Sony extras) so I'd hardly say they 'called it a day'.

Normally I am cautious about reading too much into Criterion tweets, but it is announcement day and they just tweeted a le samurai image:

aah...I just bought the dvd from the sale they had a couple of weeks ago. I havent even opened it. Going to try to sell it fast, but prob not going to have any luck...
