I lol'd at the SEC comments. That is the perception many of their schools have.

Current, former KU football players among three arrested in connection with home invasion

Three men, including a Kansas University football player, were arrested today in connection with a May 13 armed robbery in the 1900 block of Camelback Drive.

Junior Christopher Stefaun Martin, 21, of Oakland, Calif.; former Kansas player Jeremiah Letrell Edwards, 21, of Garland, Texas; and Joshua Edwards, 28, of Lawrence, were arrested on suspicion of robbing cash and marijuana from victims at gunpoint at a home on Camelback Drive about 10:30 p.m. on May 13, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman.

Martin, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive lineman and Denver native who played at Florida in 2011, transferred to Kansas this year as a four-star prospect from City College of San Francisco. He held a five-star rating coming out of Grandview High in Aurora, Colo., in 2010. He was the 16th junior-college standout this year to pick Kansas.

Martin has been in trouble with the law before. He was cited for marijuana possession while playing at the University of Florida in 2011. He transferred from the school later that year.

Martin came to Kansas to reunite with Kansas football coach Charlie Weis, whom he originally committed to out of high school when Weis was still the head coach at Notre Dame. Their past connection, coupled with Weis' willingness to give talented players a second chance while trying to turn KU football around, made the reunion a good match. Upon first stepping foot on KU's campus, Martin talked about using his latest opportunity to set the record straight about both his abilities as a football player and his character.

"I had a taste of success and ended up letting immature decisions lead me down the wrong path," Martin told the Journal-World in February. "And that's been the biggest thing, taking those mistakes and turning them into positives so when I step foot here we can go down the right path.”

The three men arrested today were booked into Douglas County Jail on suspicion of aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and kidnapping. The information has been forwarded to the Douglas County District Attorney's Office for consideration, McKinley said, and the investigation is ongoing.

Weis said the team and athletics officials are aware of the arrests and gathering more facts.

"The behavior described in these charges is not acceptable at the University of Kansas," Weis said in a statement. "When we are confident that we have enough information, we will act appropriately."
What a waste of football talent. I particularly liked two comments by the same poster:

"Don't recognize the name, so, throw the book at him, Coach!"

"Oops, now I recognize the name. He probably got mixed up in some things and deserves a second chance. Let's not be too quick to judge."

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith is receiving the 2013 Organizational Leadership Award from the National Association for Athletic Compliance. It seems odd for Smith to get an award from the NAAC considering his football team spent the prior season on probation and was ineligible for a bowl game, all for infractions that occurred on Smith's watch.

This is the guy always talking tough about OSU sports Gordon Gee. I know... real intimidating. The closest he ever came to playing sports was being on his high school chess team.

Quote:
Already arguably the most bizarre NCAA investigation in the history of NCAA investigations, the inquiry into Miami's improper benefits scandal took another surprising turn on Monday with the news that a Hurricanes player filed a complaint with local police over the conduct of an NCAA investigator.

The Miami Herald reported that Hurricanes defensive end Dyron Dye and his attorney, Darren Heitner, told police on Friday that NCAA investigator Rich Johanningmeier had "coerced" information from him during an August 2011 interview. Per the Coral Gables police report obtained by the Herald, Heitner told officers that Johanningmeier sought "favorable answers for his investigation" from Dye and "threatened Mr. Dye's football eligibility if he did not cooperate during the interview."

Police told the Herald that the department has not yet decided whether to pursue an investigation into Dye's complaint or not.

Dye was interviewed by the NCAA for a third time last week after filing an affadavit recanting his prior testimony in his interview with Johanningmeier. In a copy of the affadavit obtained by CBSSports.com, Dye writes that "I could not recall many of the specific details regarding the issues" discussed in the August 2011 interview and that he felt "intimidated" by Johanningmeier.

"I felt compelled to testify in a manner that would be consistent with the manner in which Mr. Johanningmeier was directing me in order to keep my eligibility," Dye said in the affadavit, adding that "I have learned that Mr. Johanningmeier has employed similar intimidating tactics during interviews with other student-athletes ... "

A redshirt senior next season, Dye was one of eight Miami players suspended in 2011 and ordered to repay alleged benefits before having their eligiblity restored. Per the Associated Press, by changing his testimony to the NCAA in the current investigation, the NCAA could sanction Dye a second time over "bylaw 10.1 [unethical conduct] concerns."

Dye missed most of spring practice and will miss summer workouts with an Achilles tendon issue. He has not been ruled out for the 2013 season and was listed in the spring as the Hurricanes' second-string defensive end after spending 2011 and 2012 at tight end.
The NCAA is looking worse and worse and worse during this 'investigation'

I'm a little surprised Notre Dame wouldn't release Vanderdoes from his letter of intent to UCLA. He wanted to stay closer to home and they aren't scheduled to play UCLA in the future but now he's stuck losing a year of eligibility and unable to play this year.

I'm guessing that they're waiting until he enrolls at fUCLA before they give him his outright release. They just don't want him to suddenly change his mind AGAIN and sign with USC and run the risk of having to face him for four years.

When it's all said and done, I believe that Eddie Vanderdoes will have the full 5 to play 4.

The court case launched against the NCAA by the Governor of PA was tossed out of court. He was attempting to get the sanctions imposed against Penn St. stemming from the Sandusky case by the NCAA overturned. It sounds like this was a politically motivated lawsuit given this Corbett guy was Attorney General when the case was being investigated and is up for re-election next year.

Quote:
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett, who is facing reelection in 2014 with terrible approval ratings, got some bad news Thursday when a federal judge threw out his lawsuit against the NCAA. Corbett was looking to void the stiff penalties the NCAA imposed on Penn State following the Jerry Sandusky sex-abuse scandal.

For Corbett, the attempt to turn the Penn State scandal in his favor by overturning a $60 million fine and a four-year bowl ban from the NCAA seems to have backfired. The failed suit now looks to be another unfortunate reminder to Pennsylvania voters of the governor's role in the scandal, when he served as the state's attorney general.

And while the courts may be done with the governor's Penn State suit, Penn State is not done with the governor. The family of the school's late football coach Joe Paterno is still suing the NCAA, which will keep the scandal—and Corbett's association with it—squarely in the news. And, as National Journal's Michael Catalini recently reported, Pennsylvania's Democratic attorney general is still in the midst of an investigation into how Corbett handled the Sandusky affair, and she plans to leave "no stone unturned."

Despite the horrific acts of one former coach, I feel for the current PSU players, coaching staff, and fans.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has been known as a relentless recruiter, so a story about his aggressive pursuit of 5-star offensive lineman KC McDermott is not unbelievable.

McDermott, a top-five offensive tackle according to 247Sports, committed to the hometown Miami Hurricanes in April. The West Palm Beach, Fla., native grew up a Miami fan, and his older brother, Shane, is expected to compete for the starting center position this fall after being named All-ACC Honorable Mention in 2012.

In a recent interview with Bleacher Report, McDermott told a story about the time he turned down Meyer and Ohio State in person. According to the Hurricanes' commit, Meyer "looked like he was a baby about to cry."

"The Urban Meyer thing was just funny to me. He came to my school a week after I told his assistant that I wasn't even interested in them," McDermott said. "I told him no to his face, and it's got to be one of the top five reactions of someone ever. His facial expression was just so funny. My coach was tearing up and had to go in his office and laugh."

After being asked to elaborate on Meyer's "funny" face, McDermott compared the two-time national championship winning coach to an infant.

"It literally looked like a kid the first time you tell him 'no, you can't do something.' It looked like he was a baby about to cry. It was so funny."

One thing is for sure. Miami's top-rated recruit is not short on confidence. It is important to note that this is McDermott's account of what happened, so take the details of the story with a grain of salt.

The Buckeyes and Hurricanes have no current future meetings scheduled, though they did play a home-and-home in 2010 and 2011. Here's to hoping the two teams meet when the younger McDermott is on the roster.

LOL at this scrub. Good luck playing a school that hasn't been or won a BCS game in 10 years and still has sanctions coming it's way. Fits in perfectly with Miami, a typical full of himself, loudmouth obnoxious brat. Enjoy the 300 fans watching you play at 'The U' every home game, KC. Meanwhile Urban has and will continue to win with way better players. This story sounds fabricated. I'm sure Meyer has been turned down many times and have never heard him crying about it.

What is it, 5 national titles for the Canes since 1983 compared to 1 for "that other school"?

Perhaps, you missed this part:

"It is important to note that this is McDermott's account of what happened, so take the details of the story with a grain of salt."

Why you didn't do exactly that is beyond any reasonable person.

HTH.
