I don't think debate means a movie was awesome. It was probably one of most highly anticipated movie of the summer, meaning, there were a LOT of expectations. There was very little chance this film would please everyone. Dark Knight was one if the rare movies that met most people's expectations or surpassed them. Not everyone loved MOS. No big deal. It's just a movie.

You guys can correct me if I am wrong but in 75 years of exsistance did Superman ever actually kill anyone before this movie? If he did it couldn't have been more than once or twice.

[Show spoiler]Supposedly he killed Zod the same way in the comics, not sure though. Doomsday and Darkseid have also died at his hands. I'm sure he's killed others but I haven't really read many Superman comics.

[Show spoiler]Does it really matter? He probably doesnt kill the enemies in the comic books so the writers can have them keep coming back.

It was either let an innocent family die while risking humanity's enslavement if Zod wins the fight, or break Zod's neck. I know what I would have done.

Someone else already mentioned it in this thread...this scene was about Superman choosing humans over Kryptonians. IMO his anguish after killing Zod had as much to do with him killing the last of his kind then it did with him simply killing someone.

Which scene was worst - the Talia death scene or the Pa Kent tornado scene?

He had his powers taken away, which would have been good, but the he threw him down into a fluffy cloud.

Is anyone really questioning the tornado scene?

[Show spoiler]I think clark now knows he could of saved him. His father and him made the wrong choice and that will forever haunt him.

[Show spoiler]Was it a wrong choice or a father just being very protective of his son? He gave up his own life rather then risking his son's identity.

The problem here is we have a bunch of people who sat down and thought about the Tornado scene for who knows how long when in the movie Johnathan Kent has what, a few seconds to make decisions? Its easy to rip somebody in hindsight without putting yourself in their shoes

Talia's death scene was one of the most embarrassing things I've ever seen in a big budget film, so the Pa Kent scene wins by default, still a crap scene though.

Talia's is the most awkward death scene I've ever seen in a movie that wasn't supposed to be cheesy or awkward. Middle school theater type stuff.

I agree with both! Another layer of complexity added to a complex movie.

Im surprised theres not more talk around here with the Christian themes and also a society so advanced it ultimately led to their doom.

There was one issue where superman goes to an alternate universe and his kills Zod and the other two kryptonians after they killed b/millions of people. Maybe one for darkseid/doomsday character. In superman superman 2 he throws a powerless Zod into a bottomless pit, which is like killing anyway- while some cling to a deleted scene that later shows Zod in handcuffs as proof for him not killing Zod even though that scene was deleted and not used by Donner means he wanted or left this ambiguity of whether Superman killed Zod or not; possibly to test the waters of the fans as to not be turned away by the movie. A very cautious route taken if intentional. Also, other little things where superman didnt actually kill anyone, but left them in a harsh environment with no defense/protection where normally would have killed them shortly after being left. Like when he takes one criminal on top of a snowy mountain and leaves him there from the very early days of the character.

Even without super powers, I would have rushed to help my dad. Clark sits and watches til it's too late. If they had made it so he turned around and saw his dad about to die, it would have been more believable and had more impact.
As written/edited now, it just looks like a people making dumb choices that almost no one would make, and Clark being less heroic than most people would have been in a similar situation.

But hey, if others feel the moment was some beautiful moment of Zen movie makers then cool. Unfortunately, it makes me cringe. Editing could have changed a lot.
Everyone is criticizing his decision, but you notice that even Martha didn't tell Clark to save him. They both knew that ANYTHING he did would have revealed himself to the world. Both made the decision to protect their son. It was beautiful, and perfect. I think people fail to realize that Clark was not ready become Superman, and it was possible that if he was exposed at that point the government could have captured him, tortured then killed him. If as a parent, you thought for one second that could happen to your child, would you not sacrifice your life to prevent it?

That scene is a logical fallacy. What kind of wife and son would allow their husband/father to jump into a tornado just to save a dog? And what kind of superhero would not save his father just because people would find out about his superpowers?

Didn't Superman die killing Doomsday in the comics and destroying most of Metropils?? Either way the "no killing" mantra is great, but not always realistic. Sometimes it's necessary.
