Cowboy Bebop Series US Blu-ray release 2014

During Otakon 2013, FUNimation announced that Cowboy Bebop series will be released on blu-ray in US in 2014. So the wait has finally ended. This is pretty much the only anime I really wanted on blu-ray.

Update: As of August 9, 2014, the blu-ray release will be in December 16, 2014 (according to Amazon pre-order)

One of the most asked questions at our booth all year now has an answer. Cowboy Bebop will be releasing on home video in December!

Fans will have four options for purchase:
o DVD standard edition
o Blu-ray standard edition
o Amazon Exclusive BD/DVD Premium Edition
o FUNimation.com Exclusive BD/DVD Premium Edition

The two Premium Editions will each feature different packaging and premium items, but their precise details will be announced later.

Makes sense, since the series second and final set will be out later this year in the UK.

The question I have is what the price will be. If FUNimation's price is outrageous, I will just import the Region B UK sets.

All I can say is that I am certain that it will definitely be cheaper than the Japanese set.

Yes! Been waiting for this ever since I first started collecting Blu-Rays. Almost imported the UK sets, but I'll gladly hold out for the US set.

Awesome news, though! I have had a lot of friends that loved this show, but I never got around to watching it. One of my friends seemed to have a special affinity for both this and Lupin the 3rd

It will be the third time for me.

There are so many reasons to own this series, the series' music score is one of my main reasons, Yoko Kanno is a musical genius.

Third time for me as well; bought the original DVDs, then the Remix edition. Will probably keep them even after getting the Blu-Rays though, so I can play the show in any format.

I read somewhere that the series was released on HD-DVD (I do not know if I can say that word in this forum), back when that format was still alive.

2014 cannot come sooner.

Well, considering it is actually HD DVD, without the hyphen, I'd say you're safe

Sorry, haha. Extreme nitpick... but I've always been very defensive about it being Blu-ray, HD DVD, BD.

I used to own the limited edition black box set with the CD (if I'm recalling correctly). I sold it when it went for too much money on eBay, I planned on picking up the Remix edition but never go around to it. Totally picking this up on blu-ray. Now where's my Vampire Hunter D already?

Yeah, I already bought the original DVD then the Remix edition. Plus I have that ridiculously expensive flip-top box set too.

I told myself that I wouldn't re-buy TV series on blu-ray after the disappointment from FLCL and early upconvert blu-rays. But I believe Cowboy Bebop was cel animated, and not done by digital in SD. So proper remaster would look awesome in blu-ray.

I will probably break my rule and rebuy this on blu-ray but most likely wait for price drop.

It will be interesting to see the difference in the packaging and special features between US and UK release (there is an Australian release also).

I really dislike the UK packaging because it's this flimsy cardboard almost-digipak with a cardboard box sleeve, so it might be worth upgrading just to have a more stable product, heh. I really dislike handling the thing.

If funimation does one thing well (now) its Art/Slipbox packaging for blu ray releases. And I have a feeling that it will be released as a complete series and not broken into two releases. (maybe its just my wishful thinking...but breaking it into two releases just seems wrong for this)

I would not mind paying extra cash to have the whole series in one package like Samurai Champloo

Even though the Japanese set's cases were outstanding given the context of the show's theme of music, I'm hoping for just standard cases this time around.
