Not under-appreciated by me, or critics, or anyone else who's actually seen it (the Blu-Ray is fantastic by the way). The only problem I have with the movie is that about 20 minutes of the film was cut before release, leaving certain characters and plot points out to dry. If any movie needs a "director's cut", that would be in my top ten.

Raiders? Yeah. The rest? Nope. Dont care to see any of those. My point is that hes treated as a Star Wars Demi-God and as far as Star Wars is concerned, I dont think having him around gaurantees me anything.

Well, that's your choice. I think you're missing out, but to each his or her own.

EDIT

If you haven't seen them, you really shouldn't call them "awful". Sort of weakens your argument.

The only ones I've seen besides the Star Wars and Indiana Jones were his (relatively) recent works --- Dreamcatcher, Wyatt Earp, Bodyguard, and Grand Canyon. They weren't very good. Of course, I haven't seen all his movies. Looking at his IMDB page, it looks like the bulk of his successful work came 25-30 years ago.

That's not the kind of person I would've chosen to re-invigorate a franchise.

Not really. More than a few people have said they would've liked to hear Michael Giacchino's take on Star Wars.

Nothing against John Williams or Harrison Ford or Mark Hamill. But Star Wars had already tried embracing its legacy... to mixed results. The prequels brought back George Lucas, John Williams, and fan favorite characters like Obiwan, 3PO, R2, Yoda, Sidious, Chewbacca, and Vader. To me, this Disney venture is just doing the same. Only this time it's with Lawrence Kasdan and John Williams, and fan favorite characters like Han Solo, Leia, Luke, and possibly Sidious, 3PO, and R2.

What Star Wars needs is a completely FRESH start. All-new people in front of and behind the camera.

Lawrence Kasdan wrote The Bodyguard in college. His agent had shipped it out, it was picked up after languishing in studio hell for over a dozen years. The thing was a smash, even though he had little to do with the revisions. While critically acclaimed, box office wasn't there for Grand Canyon and Mumford. I haven't seen Dreamcatcher.

Can't believe that after writing Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Big Chill, Body Heat, The Accidental Tourist and Silverado you don't give him any respect. "Well, he hasn't done anything since then blah blah blah..."

Come on...

technically Lucas hasn't done anything good since what, 1977? it isn't a question of when is the last time they did something good(or even the last time they did something at all), it is a question of when they did something bad. Has Kasdan written a much of bad movies lately? has he done more bad ones than good ones? he has a pretty good reputation and just because he hasn't done a ton of stuff lately doesn't mean that reputation is sliding. maybe he decided he had enough money and decided to spend time with the family instead of dealing with Hollywood. I would rather have him working on it than JJ, that's for sure.

Lucas has produced some great films since the heady days of Return of the Jedi...Tucker - The Man and His Dream is fantastic.

I feel the exact same way! Part of it I'm sure is due to "George Lucas fatigue" and I associate ALL of those original characters with Lucas. He just botched the PT SO badly that I really don't want any further reminders. That's why I had wished so badly that instead of going with Episodes 7,8, and 9, that they would have tackled the Knights of the Old Republic storyline! ALL new characters, ALL new adventures! I understand that's not marketable. I get it why they are furthering the original storyline. I would just have liked to have seen a fresh direction.

Wait...Episode VII...would take place thousands of years in the past?

No but that's my point. I didn't want an Episode 7. I would rather have them tackle this universe at a different time period so they wouldn't have all the exhausted cast of characters to lean on.

There should be movies based on "The Jedi Path" and the "Book of Sith" that explore the birth and rise of the two orders.

I kind of agree with you. What Star Wars really needs is fresh characters, aliens, locations and ideas. Staying too close too what has come before isn't going to cut it for me.

That said, if Luke, Leia and Han are kept to just one or two walk on bits, I don't think I'd complain. I just don't want to see them be major players in this new set of films, which by the way in case anyone needs reminding take place in the past with a cast made up completely by aliens. "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..."

Really hope the Palps rumor aint true.

I love the character but come on! Give us a fresh new villian hellbent on restoring the Sith order and wiping out Luke and the new masters. Rehashing an antagonist thats been dead for 20 years just reeks of pure laziness.

Willow 2 is coming. At least Val Kilmer is drumming up support. Warwick Davis is ready to reprise his role.

For all the flaws that the Prequels have, John Williams' scores isn't of them. In fact they were probably the best thing about the Prequel Trilogy.

It wouldn't seem right having another composer do the music for the new trilogy.

Just as bad as this one from Episode III

Padme: It's only because I'm so in love

Anakin: No no it's because I'm so in love with you

Padme: O so Love has Blinded you

I wanted to throw myself off the balcony for that one.

Could Ewan McGregor Be Coming Back to the Star Wars Universe?

Quote:
The gang at Latino Review are at it again. Earlier this week, they started a very interesting conversation with their belief a major Sith Lord would return in J.J. Abrams‘ Star Wars Episode VII. Now they’re reporting that a very famous Jedi will return as well.

Latino Review is reporting Ewan McGregor will return as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Episode VII.

According to the story, McGregor will return as a force ghost, which is exactly how Obi-Wan Kenobi was last seen in the original trilogy and how they believe Emperor Palpatine will come back to help motivate a new Sith apprentice. It’s not much of a surprise, frankly, because the appearance of deceased Jedi in this manner is well established in the series.

They’re also reporting McGregor would like to make a Kenobi standalone movie.

We’ve reported in the past that McGregor was definitely open to returning to the Star Wars universe, and that he had an idea for a standalone movie. If, in fact, either or both of these are true now it certainly makes sense. McGregor is a legitimate movie star and his character is one of the few who has been shown to have the ability to use the Force and come back to assist younger Jedi. Plus, young kids are much more familiar with McGregor as the character because of both the prequels and the Clone Wars TV show. (McGregor doesn’t voice that character, but it sounds and looks like him.)

A few additional thoughts. Bringing back McGregor and not the late Alec Guinness is a move dangerously close to George Lucas’ decision to insert Anakin Skywalker into Return of the Jedi when it was released on Blu-ray. He obviously could have chosen to replace Guinness too, but did not. This move also all but assures we’ll see Yoda as a Force Ghost, and maybe even Anakin Skywalker too. Heck – while we’re at it, bring Qui-Gon Jinn back.

There’s no timetable on when or if we’ll find out if this rumor is true or not but, three independent sources reportedly confirmed it to Latino Review so it’s certainly worth thinking about; do so below.
