Very good movie.
It's been in need of new life on blu-ray.
I've seen it broadcast in HD, and it didn't seem like much more than an upscaled DVD. I'll definitely be looking forward to seeing Criterion work their magic at restoring this one.

They wouldn't just eliminate something that Mann specifically changed without his approval. Runtime is still the same, so it's probably just like the MGM DVD SE.

Luckily there's a UK DVD of the theatrical version (though it does suffer from PAL-speedup).

Finally! It'll be nice to have all of Mann's good films on blu. Very pleased to hear this is coming.

EDIT: I keep forgetting Ali hasn't been releases stateside. After we'll be good. I know The Keep has its following but even as a huge Mann fan I probably wouldn't watch that again.

Favorite Mann & favorite Caan film EVER! I have seen both versions of this movie at least 20 times a piece. I can't wait till Christmas is over. It's my favorite holiday, but when it's gone it will mean January is here & this will be mine

All that is left is the Keep and i hope and pray that Criterion and Mann get together and release something special. All the behind the scenes stuff, alternate versions, deleted scenes, the directors cut and studio interference with it plus the author of the book being disappointed in the film will make the package amazing IF Criterion do decideto get hold of the film. I think thats all Mann's movies released on Blu now! ( there's a great ALI blu from germany ). I would love to see his pre HEAT mini movie 'LA TAKEDOWN' on blu because of its relevance and it being one of the best tv movies ever!!

Come on Criterion!! Get The Keep!!!!
