For some reason, though, it seems to be the one scene most people have a problem with. I think some of it comes down to the fact that they don't pay attention and think the turtle is still alive during the disembowelment.

The killing of the ape seems fast, too, though not pleasant of course. I think the only scene that really reasonably could be labeled as "animal cruelty" is the killing of the coatis.
I think the biggest problem I have with the turtle scene is after they cut the head off one of the characters takes the machete and uses it to peel off the shell of the turtle in rather graphic detail (as I remember it).

Either way ya' slice it it's a very disgusting scene be it real or not.

Amusingly enough, this is the only scene cut on the new "BBFC Approved" UK release, specifically because it's clear the animal was not happy about its situation. The death itself wasn't any longer than what goes into any kosher frank, I know, but the fact that they literally killed a coati - a creature even the locals don't eat themselves, just to make the film "edgy" - rightly leaves a bad taste in a lot of people's mouthes.

The UK release also includes a "Director's Cut", which uses simulated film damage to edit out most of the animal violence. Deodato used to defend the acts, saying he grew up on a farm and that killing animals was an every day part of his life back then. He feels differently now, though, and I guess that's his right to change his mind.

I don't mind him signing off on a slightly less icky cut years later on strictly moral grounds, so long as the uncut version is preserved for posterity. BIRTH OF A NATION and TRIUMPH OF THE WILL haven't exactly aged without moral misgivings of their own, but censoring them would only undermine their importance for future generations, and suggest that controversial and even philosophically rotten material can't be important, and I don't for a second think that's the case.

The Artwork is in an ad in the newest issue of Gorezone, as well as some details about Cannibal Ferox and Cat In The Brain.

But the artwork or a photo/scan of the ad has yet to show up and it's driving me insane.

Guess we're getting closer to a US release...hopefully, but has anyone checked out the Italian blu? The French BD is supposed to have terrible PQ.

I guess it's time to try to unload my 2 copies of CH (Grindhouse DVD and Shameless BD). Going by Grindhouse's previous two Blu's I'd say I won't be needing them anymore

I have to get this one whenever it becomes available. I don't approve of the animal violence, but I love the film.

This will be the 4th time that I buy this classic, and first time on blu ray. The Grindhouse release will hopefully be THE ONE. It will also be my first Grindhouse blu, although having recently seen The Swimmer, I'm thinking about picking that up

As far as Cannibal Holocaust goes, we have a cover, now please can we have a release date and specs ? Oh, and a release date for Fulci's Beyond, please.

Maybe they'll use the original US one-sheet on the reverse:cannibalholocaust.jpg

Dang. Thought it was finally announced/dated. Interesting cover. I guess the movie never had amazing poster art but is that really going to be the final art? It seems pretty "heavy" and disturbing. I know this isn't going to be on shelves in B&M stores but geez. Anyway, hopefully this is GR's next announced title. The Swimmer is coming out so there should be another announcement from them soon. It would be cool if this and Ferox released the same day or month.

I'm fairly sure this is their next release, with Ferox and Cat In The Brain not far behind.

He's also currently working on features for The Beyond, and a 4K Scan for Pieces.

I'm glad there's confirmation but I'd rather them not announce street dates until everything is set in stone. Better not to be expecting something by a certain date and have that date come around and suddenly there's a delay (like with The Swimmer).
