I hope to see further thought provoking stuff from him in the future now that he’s back.
IMO, the only good thing lately from FFC is his Cabernet and Rosso...but, thats just me...

yes but in the DVD world, studios give the consumer choice(I.e. Regular and special edition packaging.) however that is not the case when it comes to WB coffee books. How hard would it be to give choice like they did with the harry potter set? Wouldn't be very difficult and they would sell more. They are doing it for batman begins(gift set and regular). The shocker here is WB plans on releasing some the harry potters in digibook as well. Holy s&$@ right there is three different ways to get the harry potter titles. To be honest I don't think WB wants to spend the money to give us a jewel case release as well because they don't think these will sell well, because apparently BB and HP are easy money.

I can think of many DVDs where there was not a choice for standard packaging.

Off the top of my head:
- There Will Be Blood
- Futurama: Bender's Big Score
- some of WB's snapper cases that haven't yet been re-released (as well as all of their snapper case titles initially)
- just about every TV show DVD set ever released
- the 2-disc versions of certain movies like Fight Club, Memento, and Se7en.

I'm not trying to convince you to like them or anything like that. Just know that, eventually, it will be completely impossible to keep your collection uniform unless you're ok with missing out on a lot of deluxe editions and TV sets and the like.

Well, depending upon your definition of “lately”, I think that’s a fair assessment because he hasn’t Directed any motion picture since something like 1995 or 1996, if memory serves.

Which is why I said it’s good to see him “back in the saddle”.
I’m hoping that Youth Without Youth got his juices running again and that it could serve as a precursor to another great masterpiece like Apocalypse Now or The Godfather trilogy.
The talent is definitely there.
I think this 69? year old gentleman put his heart into this latest work (as he also wrote the screenplay) which is a good sign for us in that thee ole master has not folded up his Director’s chair just yet and permanently retired.

Haven't heard any update, but FFC had the computer that had the script and pre-production notes stolen for a film he had planned to begin filming in February.

UPDATE: According to IMDB the film Tetro is being filmed, so perhaps he just misplaced it.

I'm not Bill, obviously, but I was thinking about this the other day and arrived at a different conclusion. I figured Warner Bros. would be desperate to recover as much as they could from the bomb and releasing the Matrix trilogy on the heels of the Wachowski Brothers latest (last?) major motion picture sounds about as good as any.

No, nothing is postponed. Piles of people will buy Speed for Blu eye candy anyway, given that it's hyper clean and smoothied to hell (on purpose to look more "animated")

There was nothing wrong with the encoding side.

The Entertainment in Video version I own uses the same video master source, but they have been provided with a different tape which has not undergone any DNR. Hence better PQ.

Unfortunately when Ben and Amir were telling people that WB encodes were transparent to the master tapes they (or GDMX in the case for WB) were provided they weren't lying.
The U.K version of PL was released by Optimum and not EIV. The BD is open matte.

Hi Bill. Easy one for you: The back cover of Short Circuit says 1080i. I believe this is a misprint and should say 1080p. Can you verify?

Are you able to back up your statement that it is a vocal minority? I think some people need to accept that the vast majority of Blu-ray fans care about the quality of the media and the package that protects it. I don't care if they offer special packaging for those who derive some pleasure out of a tin box, however I want a case that is replaceable and protective of the disc inside. If it isn't in a thin blue case I'm not buying it. If it annoys you ...oh well, you'll get over it.

By the way, if steel book packaging was truly the choice of the majority of DVD fans, don't you think they would be more abundant ...after all, they could charge a premium and make oodles of extra dough. Hmmm something to think about. Common sense is a pesky thing.

Wicky do you think Warner will push this out on Blu ASAP to make up for the lack of box office I think it would have done better later in the summer

I'm amazed it is that high for the Godfather films, and that low for Indy IV.

If the new release buzz is bypassed, it will take years before the BD adoption is high enough to sell a catalog title at the same levels as a new release this fall. And at that future date they could release a super-special edition.

Yes, the same sorts of complaints went out about the digipack. The snapper was abandoned not because we hated it, but because it wasn't worth their new manufacturer's time to retool all their lines just for that, and since no one else wanted to use the snapper anymore, it was pretty much a moot point.

Yes it's a vocal minority. no matter how many of them happen to be on this board. Special fancy packaging sells, and that's proven over and over again. Whether or not some kind of accomidation can be reached remains to be seen, but there's more important stuff that has to come first like DVNR.

No. They've known when it was coming out for a long time and that's not going to change.

Gary, you might want to read that quote again. He said it's 70/30 for BOTH the "Godfather" films AND Indy IV... but that it's less for us to get the first THREE Indy films this year...
