I really hope this is good and it's done right this time.

Everything to do with FF has been hot garbage so far. From the awful cartoons, to the terrible movies (including the made-for-TV 90s movie), I'm beginning to think the franchise outside the comics is cursed.

Or: bloo hoo hoo!!

That's funny, my best friend is a black guy and he even says it's wrong.

How about this instead: STOP RACEBENDING EXISTING WHITE CHARACTERS AND MAKE MORE "NEW" BLACK CHARACTERS!

That comparison would work if the entire cast's race was being changed.

New comic characters have very little chance of catching on. Because of the small readership base.

Of all the numerous new characters created in the last decade or more... only X-23 has any staying power.

And having a single black friend who doesn't like the idea doesn't mean much.

By the way... the director of the film Josh Trank says all this is BS.

I can see Miles Morales getting his own film eventually, hopefully once Andrew Garfield ends his run (after Sinister Six?), he's an incredibly strongly written character and compelling all on his own. It's the natural evolution of the Spider-Man story.

Yeah... I forgot Miles. He's a great character and it would be cool to see Sony make a film.

what I was getting at is they are changing the history of the characters.......why??

A skin color change doesn't change the history of the characters. Especially here.

Johnny Storm being black doesn't mean he's not still the immature girl crazy little brother of Sue Storm who gets fire powers from cosmic rays. I don't see how his skin color effects any of that.

The amount of melanin in a character's skin has very very little to do with their history.

are either of them adopted??

do they have different dads/moms??

I give you history being changed.

it may not be a big deal to you and that's fine......I for one don't care for a studio making changes like this just b/c they can.

it's disrespectful to the fans and it's a slap in the face of the creators of the characters.

take someone who has read these comics since their childhood...........how does a studio expect them to take 50+ years of stories and memories and just accept a major change like that??

A minute bit of history that has almost no bearing on who the character is.

Better go yell at Marvel then. Cause they make these kinda changes all the time.

The movies are NOT and have NEVER BEEN 616 Canon. They're their own universe.

It's neither of those things. And certainly not a slap in the face to anyone.

Unless you want to claim that Stan Lee slapped DC Creators in the face when he wrote those "What If" stories for DC about what the characters would be like if he created them. How dare he!!

And changing things for a movie adaption does not do anything to the original source material.

The movies from the beginning have never been straight adaptions of the 616 Comic Books.

Every film has changed things to modernize the stories and make them more relevant.

I guess changes are okay to some people... as long as it doesn't involve skin color.

how does changing a characters skin color or making doom a female (even though it's probably not true) make the story more relevant??

just b/c you accept changes like this doesn't mean everyone does.

you find it ok. myself and others on here don't.

As noted above... the Doom this is confirmed as being BS.

The comics are a product of their age. When non-white characters were jokes or racial stereotypes.

That's why it's more relevant. Cause it's not the 1960's anymore.

So you can bet the FF won't be racing to beat the Evil Commies to the Moon either.

If you're dealing with adaptions from any medium there will always be changes.

And that's your choice. Just vote with your wallets and don't see them then.

How about the Latina actress Zoe Saldana, she looks black. Doubt they'd let her be more than one Marvel character at the same time though.

Well... we already had Jessica Alba. Who's certainly not white bread. So sure...

Can't wait to see Zoe Saldana as Gamora in GotG. And she was awesome in Avatar and Star Trek.

If they do wind up going with a black actor for Johnny Storm, then they should do the same with Susan. I just thinking having one of the siblings black and the other white adds an unnecessary complication to the characters and draws too much attention to a story element that is not needed and has never been an issue with the Fantastic Four.

Oh and... Long Live the New Flesh!

It's only a complication if it's written as one. It doesn't ever need to be.

It's not a complication for me unless they hire a writer I like and an actress I'm fond of as Sue Storm.

Having two siblings of different color always begs for questioning, no matter how common it may be -- it's just a noticable thing -- and it'll take people out of the movie, when they should be focused on things that are more important to a Fantastic Four movie.
