Just bought this player last night at Wal-Mart for $348.00. I have the 1400 right now and have played a BD and SD on the 1500 so far. Loading tray is quieter and handshake is more solid. SD reproduction is very nice, but so was the 1400. I love the thinner sleek design and the all black finish on the front without the lame silver trim at the bottom. I plan on giving it a real good workout next week with a variety of BDs and SDs. I'll give up a report about my final opinion next weekend sometime.

So far, I'm liking this player allot.

it's a great deal. alot better than the sony S300 profile 1.0 that is $388 at wal-mart and that is an ancient unit compared to the newer samsung and magnavox that decode all lossles formats and are profile 1.1 and 2.0 at a cheaper price. the sony S300 needs to come down to under $280. profile 1.0 players should be alot cheaper. I can't wait until july when wal-mart gets the sony S350's in. I might bite on one of those.

I asked for this new model at my local Wal-Mart (Texas) and the guy says he has NO idea when they will be receiving them. He didn't even know Samsung was coming out with a new BD player.
It will likely be hit or miss for many people trying to find this at Walmart. I called around to every Walmart in my area (and that is a lot of Walmarts around here) on Friday and Saturday. Out of, probably, 12 Supercenters within a 75 mile radius of me, I found exactly one player at a store about 50 miles away.

Can't speak for the Wally Worlds, but I did call around to three BBs in my area before calling WW, and out of three BBs, one had six in stock. The WW was just down the street for $348.00, and the BB was on the other side of town for $399.00.

Hmmmm, I wonder where I decided to buy it?

Also, to add a little info to the thread, although the manual states does not support DVD+R, I did try a DVD+R DL and it played fine.

No issues so far with any Blu-ray disc I've tried. All audio output is correct, 24p output is correct, Bonusview works fine, Java menus play smoothly, load times are on par with Panasonic BD30. So far, looks like a good player.

I was one that got frustrated with the BD-P1400 debacle early on and got a bad taste for Samsung but decided to give this new 1500 a try based on early positive comments. I recently sold my last standalone player, the BD30 because following the most recent PS3 updates, I felt the console would satisfy me. However, I found myself thinking about another standalone player after only a couple of weeks without one. The BD-P1500 now has a spot in my rack and I've taken the time to program my Nevo universal remote to add it to the system. Barring some unforseen problem that crops up, looks like Samsung has a winner.

Looked all over the south part of the Salt Lake valley yesterday, to find one. No one had one in stock. WalMart nearby showed 2 in stock, but not on the shelf. They couldn't find them. Finally someone said they thought they had put them on a TV display. Would think they would sell better on the shelf. But???
--
Anyway, they suggested that I call each Sunday morning, (that's when the electronics shipped in), and this morning they had two more. Went over and got one.
--
Had a bad experience with the 1200, but Samsung refunded our purchase price after having it in for repair 3 times. Didn't really want to invest in the 1400 with so many changes coming out.
--
Thought about the Panasonic bd-50, but decided that if the panny was going to be twice the money, we would like to try this one out. Been missing the blu-ray picture since before Christmas.
--
So far, so good.
--
Price was 348. They wanted 29 for extended warranty.

I tried to find the Samsung on the Wal Mart web site, but couldn't find it. I wanted to get Best Buy to price match.
My Wal Mart doesn't have any Blu Ray player regardless of the brand.

On the 1200/1400, it's statically set to 5 minutes after a pause.
Nothing like watching a movie, pausing it and find that the SS kicked in and you have to restart the entire movie and scan/FF to find your spot.

(btw: The 1200/1400 and other Blu-ray player resume play after a stop. This seems to be title dependant. I believe most WB movies will resume whereas Disney/Buena Vista will not due to BD-J.)
Anyone know if the screen saver timeout can be changed or disabled ?

Just bought a 1500 today. So far, so good. Picture looks good and sound codecs seem to work fine with my Yamaha VX-1800.

A couple of issues:

When playing '50 First Dates' (free with BR player purchase), I have to always turn off subtitles twice before they actually turn off. This might be some weirdness with the disc itself.

The display lighting on the front panel of the unit is incredibly dim. Have not found a way to brighten it up.

Sorry but I completely forgot about this player.

Will it be upgraded to Profile 2.0 or will it strictly remain a 1.1 player?

Also what about DoublyTrueHD and DT-HD MA? Does it decode and bitstream both of them?

Says right on the box it is 'BD-live ready'. It will be upgradable to 2.0 via firmware upgrade. Obviously, it has the required ethernet port to do just that. Upgrades can be performed via internet connection vs. having to load via CD or USB, although the latter two upgrade methods/vehicles are supported.

It only decodes DolbyTrueHD via PCM. No internal/bitstream decoders for DTHD and DTS-MA.

Lastly, does not play mp3 or other compressed audio formats via CD-R, etc. No big deal for me. If we're spending the bucks to buy Blue-Ray players, receivers that can decode the newest lossless audio codecs, expensive speakers, etc, why listen to compressed audio through such a system?

According to the chart at the bottom of page 35 in the owner's manual, you can bitstream DTS HD.

You can bitstream all HD codecs on the 1500.

First "issue" with the Sammy 1500. I noticed that the pop-up menu on V For Vendetta blinks as it pops up or pops down, rather than doing so smoothly as it does on the PS3. Can anyone else verify?
