Not everything needs to be PQ perfect to enjoy, i.e. the "B-movies" are great because of their lack of PQ and AQ, and cheesy will always have its place ![]() |

Alright gang, can you just start another thread or post in a existing thread? You all saw left field and kept on going. This thread is about why studios insist on including DVD's in combo packs, I think

DVD introduced me to The Wicker man which I am ashamed to say I hadn't seen at that point. Obviously, the quality of the print lent itself pretty well to DVD as it was hard to spot the compression artefacts amongst so much grain, print damage etc.. ![]() DVD will always have a place in my heart. From the very first DVD (Twister) to my last purchase on the format (Band of brothers) |

Bu we need progress is the point Tok. I know when DVD was at its height I was always well aware that I was watching a flawed picture. Bluray is fantastic and a true blessing for all of us A/V fans. Having said that, I'm guessing when 4k comes out bluray will start to look a little less pristine. It will happen.

I don't know about that Steedeel.
Most Digital Cinemas are using 2K projectors. Heck most of the fake IMAX screens in the states are equipped with 2K units. So on a 100-in screen 2K looks pretty darn good. Unless the studios put a lot of effort into extreme resolution scans for archival purposes I just don't have the hope that we will get that quality. I mean some studios are releasing films on BD that have been so heavily filtered that they don't seem to be huge upgrade over their DVD counterparts. The old saying comes to mind Garbage in... Garbage out. Higher resolution is not going to guarantee that 4K disc are the best they can be. |

I'm all for 4K an higher at commercial theaters, but I just don't anticipate a perceivable increase in quality with the exception of perhaps the extremely large home theater projection installations.
I am sure the big reason they are going to include object based audio is because the video quality is going to lost on most. I think I'm more excited about that but again it come down to content and there's most likely a small amount of content here also. |
