It was $27.99 at Amazon until yesterday (and will likely drop back down to $26.99 or less before release date) and will be $19.99 or less from B & N during their July Criterion sale. Are you unfamiliar with Criterion and where/when to buy their releases?

Because it was a painful experience. He completed the screenplay during filming. This movie had a lot of problems.
I think it was a miracle that it turned out as being a masterpiece.

Criterion doesn't have the Canadian rights to SCANNERS, so any stores selling it in Canada will mark up the price.

Shivers? According to Film Aficianado, Lions Gate own the rights, but there has been speculation (I don't believe it's based upon anything factual, but I could be mistaken) that Criterion might potentially release it, either alone or as possibly part of a Early Cronenberg set; the latter was of course speculated before the long-rumored The Brood was announced. If you have a Panasonic, you will likely be able to play the Arrow disc. If you don't - get a region-free player!
