All sitting too close to a TV really does is put some wear and strain on the muscles and lenses in their eyes. The closer you look at things the more the muscles stay contracted and squeeze the lens for close up vision. That can, over time, make someone's lenses less malleable when trying to adjust the focus between looking up close and far away.

I have speend 5 years studying eye problems, and I'm 100% sure, you are totally wrong. Lolking at close distance is very relaxing (for example 50cm-2 meters distance), to the healthy eyes. In reality, whats damaging our eyes is posture and straining to see, people with blury vison look at world very differently (they dont look for small details, and they straining to see, while normal looking person is relaxing his eyes). Real problem arise, when you put your glasses on, because glasses are prescribed for 6 meters, so eyes no longer can relax below 6 meters distance (anythig below 6 meters will strain your eyeball).
