Unfortunately, Lucas screwed up every film in the OT with his tinkering. ESB is just the one that got screwed up the least. Admittedly, I do like the windows added to Cloud City. But that may be the only change I do like.
I hate that shuttle insert. It destroys the flow of the score and the tension in the Falcon's escape from Cloud City. Plus the line reading of "Bring my shuttle" is way better than the "Alert my Star Destroyer" nonsense which didn't even sound like James Earl Jones.

I also don't like the dialogue change with the Emperor scene. It makes it sound like Vader's finding out for the first time that Luke is his son which is absurd. And this is confirmed by a kid's book I saw in a store recently about the life of Anakin that does in fact state that he learns that info in that conversation.

Especially since Vader's been telling everyone he's looking for Skywalker. Unless Skywalker is a very common name in the Galaxy...

Yep. He's obsessed with finding Luke. Knows his full name. Knows he has Force abilities. Knows he's young. Yet somehow we're supposed to believe he had no idea they were related until Palpatine spelled it out for him? Sh-tty writer George Lucas from the last 2 decades needs to stop retconning what talented writer George Lucas from the 70's and early 80's came up with.

I was talking mainly about the big changes like the added wampa scenes and putting in the proper Emperor during the holographic scene with Vader. In regards to the change you mentioned, meh, I don't find that change all THAT big of a deal. If it had been there all along would have thought anything of it?

Anakin/Vader had no idea he had children. Palpatine told him they died along with Padme. He has little reason to suspect besides the name, which may be a common name across an entire galaxy. Think about an unusual last name and then search for how many people have that last name in your country, let alone the entire planet, and even further an entire galaxy. And if you notice, the only significant change is Vader's line "how is that possible." Meaning...he's confused about Luke's parentage and is putting things together for his confrontation with Luke at the end asking him to kill the Emperor and rule the galaxy with him. Once he finds out that Luke is his son, someone he never thought even existed, he immediately puts plans into motion to turn him to the dark side and kill the Emperor, though of course he doesn't let Palpatine know the latter part. If anything, it makes Vader look smarter in the long run.

You are so right about that! The original cut was so tight and flowed so beautifully. That new addition stops the movie in it's tracks and ruins the flow of the climax big time.

Yeah, and Luke was using the name Skywalker all the time when he was growing up on Tattooine. Vader has no interest to go look for him because Skywalker is just a common name, and he had always believed that he had no children. By the time in Empire Vader might suspect something of the name and his previous association with Ben but only accepted the truth when the Emperor told him.

Skywalker could be a common slave name. If only Lucas had been wise enough to throw that little fact out there in Episode I the common name argument would be more reasonable.

Um...did no-one ever stop to think that Vader's playing ol' Palps for a fool in the new dialogue? Nope, let's just take it at the dumbest possible face value.

Dig it: He knew Padme was pregnant. He didn't see how she died so anything could've happened to the child (as scripted, Anakin and Padme assumed she was carrying one child). He obviously knows it's his son in Empire. He's playing dumb with the big boss so he can turn Luke himself and use him to destroy the Emperor.

That works too. That scene is just fine.

Except that Padme was made up to look like she died with a child still inside her. This makes everyone think no child or children were born. This information would have gotten back to Vader and he would have no reason to believe he had a child that lived and no reason to look for one.

Padme's Funeral - YouTube
Wrong on all accounts, when a woman is pregnant the goop inside (sorry I don't know the medical term) has to be pushed out similar to the baby. When a Woman dies in childbirth that does not happen and they are buried with the residue still inside. That is why she still looks pregnant in her funeral scene.

You may be medically correct, but that detail is not in the movie to be medically accurate. It serves a purpose within the story - that of the illusion that Padme's child (or children) died with her so that they can be more easily hidden from the Emperor and Vader. What is more likely - that Lucas included those shots to be medically accurate, or to help audiences understand why Vader would never be looking for a child if he already thinks he/she/they are dead?

It was also specifically written this way in the novel.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Funeral_of_Padmé_Amidala

"In order to hide the fact that Amidala's twins survived, her body was prepared to still appear pregnant."

Ya know what's dumb? Vader trying to play Palpatine like a fool, while telling everyone around him he's looking for Skywalker.

The one fan edit of Revenge of the Sith called "Labrynth of Evil" is the only watchable version of that film for me. And Padme does not die 'from a broken heart' (I cringed just writing that), but she takes baby Leia to Alderaan as it should be. I never watch Ep. 1 and 2, and rarely watch any version of Sith so I don't have that attachment that some may have to Padme who would find it weird that she dies off screen in between the trilogies.

Anyways here's a clip of it. I think this was an unfinished version of the edit but you get the idea, Padme bringing baby Leia to live on Alderaan, which makes more sense when you hear Leia talk about her mother in Jedi http://vimeo.com/87827411

Leia might be talking about her stepmother. Did she know she was adopted?

Luke and Leia are clearly talking about Padme in ROtJ:

Quote:
Luke: Leia, do you remember your mother? Your real mother?

Princess Leia:
Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.

Luke: What do you remember?

Princess Leia: Just... images really. Feelings.

Luke: Tell me.

Princess Leia: She was... very beautiful. Kind, but sad. Why are you asking me this?

Luke: I have no memory of my mother. I never knew her.

Ah okay. The explanation was that she was seeing images of Padme through the force. You know girls, quite emotional.
