Planet of the Vampires would be great, I've been on a Bava kick recently and that and Kill Baby Kill's DVDs are both very long OOP and cost quite a bit. Planet of the Vampires always gets lauded for its crazy visuals, too, so I'd love to see it in HD.

I have a question. I really don't know much about rights holding or distribution, and I get confused trying to figure it out on this thread. A lot of people on SF's facebook page will make requests for releases and they will reply with "sorry, that is owned by "wb/mgm/whoever" , but don't they acquire rights from someone for all their releases? I know most are Universal, is that because the others release their own titles or contract with a specific distributor? Sorry, I know this is naive.

WB and Lionsgate both tend to keep their titles to themselves (Nightbreed is the anomaly.) Paramount's titles are mostly with Warner. Image movies are a no-go. Anchor Bay is, for the most part, a no-go. The Halloween set is also an anomaly. |

So to answer your initial question... Yes, Scream acquires all their releases from other studios, however only some studios are willing to license these films out. Sometimes it's not a matter of Will they license the film out, but rather how much do they want for a title/group of titles. Obviously if the cost is too high than that can prevent a release as well. |

Considering the miracle of it's existance and the strings pulled to get it together, I consider it my obligation as a "fanboy" to purchase Nightbreed Limited Edition at $80 as a strong show of support for genre films; I felt the same way about Synapses' totally worth it $45 a piece Demons films. It's not cool to gouge titles but there's no indication Scream is developing a price hiking pattern... if ever there was a time to vote with my wallet, releasing epic cuts of thought lost Cilve Barker films is it.

Yeah, I'm curious as to what all four titles will be. I just want to read that 'To All a Goodnight' is coming. The good thing is, this year has been so brutal on titles I want, next year can't be nearly as bad. But.. I'll probably still be catching up next year.

To add to what was stated above, dealing with Sony on the Halloween set is also an anomaly. I'm hoping the Anchor Bay relationship holds, especially since they are supposedly working with them on another set of some kind and AB doesn't seem to care much about their remaining horror titles anymore. I'd like to see the same happen with Sony, but the problem with Sony has never been a good working relationship. The problem is that Sony doesn't like to pony up for anything new beyond a transfer, which makes putting together new interviews, commentaries, special features, etc. very complicated and expensive. Because of this, Scream Factory hasn't really bothered dealing with them until now. Unless Sony's attitude changes, I suspect it will remain that way. Until then, we will continue to see the films that they own see release from companies like Twilight Time, Echo Bridge, Mill Creek, etc. in mostly barebones form. Studio-wise, they seem to have good working relationships with MGM and Fox at the moment. They used to with Universal, but that seems to have soured over Uni not providing them with material that is entirely up-to-par and not willing to go the extra mile with transfers. Given that Universal is putting out a bunch of titles themselves this fall that easily could have been Scream Factory ones, I'm guessing they will remain parted for the time being. Here's hoping that relationship can mend at some point, as there are still countless applicable titles for SF to mine in Universal's back catalog and it's not like they (or Shout Factory) are above redoing previously released ones in a bigger fashion (i.e. Darkman, The Shadow). Warner Brothers will likely remain a no-go, unless WB is willing to continue working with them in a "limited release" capacity and Scream wants to go down that road (unlikely). I can't see LionsGate coming around either, especially since that they give any titles that they don't want to do themselves over to Olive Films for release. Paramount is really the only "big" possibility for the future, but only after their home video rights deal completely ends with WB on down the line. There are smaller outfits like The Weinstein Company/Miramax and Code Red that Scream Factory seems to already been dealing with in some capacity, but we won't know the scope of those relationships until we get a full look at what they plan on issuing in the next 6 months. At the end of the day though, between their MGM/Fox deals and all of the independently-owned titles still available, they have PLENTY of options for future releases for years to come. |

I'm hoping Sony does come into the Scream Factory mix in 2015. There are so many possibilities that can come from a deal between the two. Lionsgate and Warner will probably remain a no go until further notice. It's a shame because both are sitting on a gold mine of horror movies.

Has anyone else seen the Eli Roth photo of him getting Scream's Releases for his contribution to the Hemlock Grove release? I can sort of understand why people hate it.
1) "He is rich, and people are saying this is what is wrong with the economy" 2) "He is horrible influence in Horror, look at Cabin Fever and his Hostel movies" 3) "Why give it to him and not your fans, this is bullshit" Frankly I love it, I love his reaction, it shows how human he is, and Eli Roth certain a bad person, I liked his interviews for the Roger Corman Documentary. I feel that you could replace Eli Roth with anyone in the world and they would have the same reaction. Good on you, Scream. |

I love listening to Eli Roth's interviews, though, and his solo commentary track for Cabin Fever is golden. I could probably listen to him talk about classic horror movies all day. I figure that Eli Roth is sort of like Martin Scorsese, in that I enjoy listening to his discussions of movies more than I actually enjoy watching his own movies. I'm going to give Eli Roth's upcoming film, The Green Inferno, a chance when it comes out in theaters. I love the Amazon scenery in the trailer, and I also like how Roth's heart is usually in the right place when it comes to paying homage to earlier films in any given subsection of horror. I just wish that Eli Roth would make a movie that actually scares me, instead of making movies that bring a smile to my face because of their tributes to better movies that did scare me. Personally I don't get the hate on SF for giving Eli Roth some movies. They posted that he didn't ask for any money for his contribution, so giving him the movies was just their way of saying thanks. I've seen the Hostel movies (they are okay) I'm not sure I've seen any more of his movies but I don't get all of the hate for the guy. That being said people get way to uppity when it comes to things like this. Hell maybe this will in some way bring some new customers for Scream. I think sometime the hate I see on the Scream Facebook comments verges on ridiculous.

That's the part people are missing too. The fact that he was willing to do it for free. People are going on about how rich he is and how he should buy them, when the forget that most, if not all, of the other contributors to the SF extras do it for a price. He did it for nothing, so they gave him a gift.
