I also noticed in the panel that they are going with the original Japanese names too, what are your thoughts on this.
The old DiC dub didn't know how to explain to Americans that Usagi was cute, scatterbrained and crybaby, so--this being just shortly after the 80's--they had to localize the instant-context into what was supposed to be a "valley girl" voice. ("Like, I'm so totally in with Darien!")
Here, it's aimed for more experienced fans who already know what a cute anime girl sounds like, so she can be a more direct cute/naively-optimistic equivalent without Terri Hawkes' distracting up-down-up-down / \ / \ / \ delivery.

On a side note, given that they showed Episode 2 in the clip, we also get to see the "Possessed fortune card" episode where Melvin/Umino flips up the teacher's dress, an episode that was cut from the 90's series--They were supposed to show Ep. 1 at the convention, but instead we got a confirmation that ALL the "banned" episodes are back.

It didn't "die out" (the series was just starting to get good in S/SuperS), just that the fifth Stars season stalled and never made it into dub negotiation, CN was moving away from Toonami (remember when "Adult Swim" meant uncut Gundam and Tenchi digital-bikinis? ), and Toei suddenly and inexplicably pulled all Moon rights in NA to avoid competition with the new JP live-action series.
Getting Moon back in NA is the anime equivalent of finally seeing the 60's Batman on disk...We finally conquered the legally impossible!

Two more clips of the dub voice at the bottom of this page:

http://ncisduckie.tumblr.com/post/90...iz-panel#notes

You also get to hear Queen Beryl for a bit and Usagi's mom (Ikuko Tsukino)! Beryl is awesome, but a little iffy on Ikuko.

I can corroborate this. The fandom didn't go anywhere; the ability to watch or read Sailor Moon dried up.

Incidentally that live-action series had a strong fansub following.

(Has it really been ten years?!)

WOW, Beryl sounds exactly like the DiC actress, but without the cackly-ness.

Viz's Sailor Moon twitter confirmed to me that the new dub WILL get a preview on Hulu before the BD release!

Much better looking than what I originally saw. And it is supposed to 'shimmer' rainbow colours due to all the foil it will have on it.

Looks good! One thing I'm not sure about though, will the chipboard artbox be big enough to house all the sets, or just one?

It will likely house the entire first season. Each season after that will have its own chipboard box for the season.

Love this box art, I was curious though I wonder if Viz Media is going to release these with a different Sailor Scout on each Blu-ray set? After all they said that this would be a set of 5 releases, 5 Sailor Scouts it would make sense.

+1 for this. It'd look nice, and I'm sure Viz will do this, or at least be receptive to feedback.

The spine simply says "Season 1" so looks like it.

Five boxes for five seasons and five sailor senshi would make perfect sense.

Y'all are correct. In one of the convention videos, one of the speakers says that there will be 1 box per season. So the 2nd volume for each season will have a standard blu-ray case release and can be placed in the boxes. Then sometime during the R-SuperS releases, there will be a set for the movies and specials (?), bringing the total to 6 sets. I think the boxes/volumes will likely end up featuring multiple senshi rather than the inners each getting their own. It makes sense and the releases usually feature more than just the inner senshi.

Anyway, the artwork isn't bad and the ~shiny~ effect will make it look nice, but it's overall a bit too simplistic for my taste. Also wish
that they were doing standard releases. They'd be a little cheaper and I wouldn't have to worry about the boxes getting damaged. lol

THey'll probably do what NISA does. After the limited editions sell out, they will start selling the basic blurays.

That's true. At that the time that I wrote my earlier post I had forgotten about that but that is correct the single DVD releases did do that and it would be great to see them do this again, if they decided to that is.

Thumbs down

Full disclosure: I am an anime fan, but never watched Sailor Moon. Had some interest in this blu-ray release out of sheer curiosity, but not anymore:

http://www.kentaiblog.com/2014/07/sailor-fools.html

Shame on Toei for not producing a real HD master for a classic series such as this, and shame on Viz for trying to pass off an ugly upscale as true HD

It's been mentioned over, and over, and over again. In this exact same thread.

The Blu-ray isn't even out yet, people are taking the stream and slapping the word "Blu-ray" on it.

As scarface said it's all bs and speculation at this point as to the PQ. You can't keep taking caps off of a stream and trying to pass them off as indictive of the quality of the Blu release. As for their argument on price it's completely bs. The $80 SRP is just that the Suggested Retail Price. If anyone is buying anything at SRP they are doing their shopping horribly wrong. The first set can be had for $60 from rightstuf.com right now. Also not every set after that will be at that price. Only the first set of each season will have the extras with it to justify that price while the second half of each season will be in a regular case to fit in the first box and at a lower price. Research for this type of set is essential and it seems like you ignored everything that was posted in this thread previously and decided to go with the word of a random blog.
